A great way to spend a couple of hours. This old territorial prison operated into modern times. Starling contrast between conditions then and now.

We had an extra day and were told to take the time to visit the town of Deer Lodge. What an incredible place. For the price of admission to the prison, which we spent 2 hours in, the ticket entitles you to the four other museums across the street. Those museums were also impressive. What we truly enjoyed with the... More

The real deal, a genuine, almost intact old prison that offers all you can want. From the guardhouses, to the old cell house, the women's prison, to the hole. It is all open and available for you to enjoy!

Had lots of fun, this was our second tour. Didn't catch any EVPs this time, but loads last time. Got great pictures though.

First stop on our road trip. Our girls age 8 and 10 both enjoyed the prison and several other museums on the complex. Just enough information to keep us and them interested and plenty of room for kids to wander around.

We were in town without much else to do and really enjoyed the Old Montana Prison experience. Crazy to think that it was still running until 1979!

The Old Montana prison complex is quite interesting and they give you a great walking tour booklet to follow. You really get to see a lot of the prison. We spent a couple hours and enjoyed it a lot.

Without rehashing specifics of what the museum actually shows-we enjoyed a couple of hours in Deer Lodge. It's $15 for admission, but if you're military, law enforcement, or a AAA member, it's $12. The thing that surprised me the most was that this place was in operation until 1979. Highlights for me were the actual gallows on display in the... More

We really enjoyed our visit to the old prison that was built shortly after the Civil War and was closed in 1970's. The self guided tour takes you through the various buildings to see the cell conditions, common areas and administration building. It is a shock to see the spartan condition that inmates lived, compared to current day prison life.... More
