Wide open spaces, the hard-working cowboy, his spirited cow pony, and vast herds of cattle are among the strongest symbols of the American West. Once the headquarters of a 10 million acre cattle empire, Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site preserves these symbols and commemorates the role of cattlemen in American history.

A Montana cattle ranch of this magnitude is worth the visit for the history of the area. I would have given it a 5 in my rating if not for the ranger and lady at the gift shop. I felt they were rude. But don't...More

While not the oldest ranch in the US, the park ranger told us, it's one where they have the most information on how it was run. The family gave it to the park service who still manage it today. It's free to walk around the...More

A great example of a working ranch near the mountains in western Montana. The visitor center/gift shop is small, but staffed by very helpful, well-informed folks. A short walk under the railroad tracks leads you to the main house, for which you need to join...More

The park is bigger than described on its website. Plan two hours to tour. Park is kid friendly with ample hands on activities.
