The falls were pretty cool! BUT, you'll need some clearance and to get up the road. 4x4 isn't required, but lots of big rocks... a small SUV or outback at the minimum is what I would recommend. When you do get to the top... it's...More

Pros: Easy hike Pretty falls Fun walking through the ice cold stream to see falls Cons: The road-I mean come on county, put a few bucks into it. It was ridiculously rough for a few miles. It's like they keep the road so bad to...More

The road to the campground parking area is rough and rocky. The views are spectacular from the road. The hike is not too strenuous--only half a mile. You HAVE TO hike up the creek to the falls. The water is incredibly cold, but very clear....More

The road up was horrible. It was 3 miles but took 20 minutes to maneuver! Rocky and bumpy all the way...don't try to tow a trailer or take a motor home up. The hike up was steep and rocky but it was short. The falls...More

Zapata Falls was definitely on our list of things to do, but the very rough road took longer than we expected. When we got out of the car, we were immediately attacked by mosquitoes, so we returned to the car, got rid of the critters...More

The road to get to the falls needs a lot of improvement. You MUST have a truck or large SUV to make it up the road. You will also need a front end alignment when you are done. The hike to the falls is all...More

The road to the falls was quite rugged and I wouldn't try it in a low vehicle. There is a bit of a hike before you get to the falls but it is worth it. The water is ICE COLD and you will have to...More

Near Sand Dunes National Park is a lovely hiking trails up to a waterfall. The hike and falls are great, however, the road up to the trailhead is in terrible condition. You need a high clearance vehicle or you will tear up the suspension.

After you turn off of the main highway onto the road going to Great Sand Dunes National Park start looking for the sign on the right. It's not far and if you get to the Park entrance gate, then you went too far. The road...More

I went in March and the waterfall inside was nearly all frozen. Once inside the cave, the ice is very slippery. I'm assuming as summer progresses, the ice thins out.
