The boat ride is definitely worth the money. Great way to see the town, it's very peaceful and relaxing. For a small tip the lady will also sing which adds to the atmosphere.

The boat ride on the canal is a great way to see the perimeter of the city. Just like the gondola rides of Venice. Be sure to request a song for a small tip.
