I’m sure this would have been a memorable place to visit, had it not been for the many tourist traps that lined the entrance of the terrace. There are different entrances leading to the rice field, some of them going through cafes and shops. At other entrances, there are people waiting for you to take pictures by their swings. They walk down with you and lead you down the wrong way towards their businesses. We did get some nice shots on the swings (which are supposed to be cheaper than Bali Swing), but realised later on that we were supposed to enter from elsewhere. The bridge was broken so we couldn’t go all the way down either.

Beautiful place to walk around, the route is sign posted. Paid 10,000pp for entry and a wristband. Be warned if you go near Ceking Sari Luwark coffee the man there will try to convince you that the terrace walk is closed and to go into his coffee shop. There is a route to the terraces on the right that passes a different restaurant, there may be other routes in too.
Take small change to donate to the rice workers. We paid 3000 to a friendly farmer.

Used to be a nice experience, now it is just an overpriced tourist trap.
Commercialisation has turned an authentic rice terrace landscape into a theme park with paid swings, ziplines, etc. criss-crossing the view. Coupled with the loud music, cheezy sculptures and proliferation of shops for trinkets, it is a shadow of the tranquil landscape that I used to associate with Bali.
I understand the need to benefit the locals but any development needs to be sensitive to the unique site qualities.

Great place to sit, drink coffee, take photos and enjoy the place. But definitely would not recommend if there was rain just before as there will be a lot of mosquitoes!

Harvesting takes place from April to May and October to November. It is during these times that you can observe some activities in the fields. If you are looking for the iconic lush emerald rice terrace, it's best to go during the wet season from October to March.

How much for entrance fee?
greene6

You have the entrance fee of 10,000 rupiah but make sure you have some small notes as you will be stopped a number of times at small shelters along the path asking for a "donation" if you want to continue through.
Hi. Where did you park your bicycles when visiting Tegallalang Rice Terrace? Is it safe to park your bicycles and how much does it cost to park your bicycles?

there are restaurants along the terraces. behind them (rear) there are parking where you can leave the bicycles. The exit road is hardly visible and steep. Be careful.I didn't see that you had to pay.

Hi, can we visit this place with a 5 month old whom we will be carrying in a baby carrier? Is the walk simple enough or will it be tricky with baby? Thanks a lot for your time.

I think you will be ok with the baby in a carrier, especially if you are tall or at least average height - as some of the concrete steps are quite big. There are side paths to stop on.

Parto il 27 per Bali con 2 bimbi piccoli. Ci sono per caso tantissime zanzare? C’è davvero l’allarme Dengue? Ho sempre girato tranquilla e spensierata dappertutto e adesso ho un po’ di paura. Grazie a chi risponderà.

My family and I are hoping to visit the rice terraces around 7:30-8:00am to have a quick look around, not our first time, and to have breakfast there before we move onto our next stop on our private tour. Any good places for breakfast with a view serving smoothie bowls etc?
GlendaCarol

I’m not sure who serves smoothie bowls. We only visited the Dewi Cafe which is at the furthest point however if your driver stopped along the main road you could easily view the menus of a couple of places and find one that suits. Enjoy.
