Uncommercialised location, great for those interested in history of Banten, and Indonesia. The walls of the fort are still well preserved, but some of the below ground locations were closed due to snakes. Great photo opportunities, in the fort and around it.

when we were there the area was dirty and too crowded. too many sellers and it was hard to find a good spot just to enjoy the views.it seemed local visitors were dominant.

At one point, around 500 years ago, Banten was one of the greatest cities of Southeast Asia, with 1000 junks arriving from China every year to buy Bantenese pepper. The Sultan of Banten controlled most of the western end of Java and the southern tip of Sumatra too, giving him control over the strategic and valuable Sunda Strait. All that... More
