Sri Lanka can boast some superior parks (the Kandy Royal Udawattekele, the amazing nearby Peradeniya), and Hakgala is one of the smaller once, less crowded (lots of locals) and not as expensive. These are also scientific research stations on indigenous plants, including the worlds finest...More

Rather crowded. Very poor sights of flowers or trees, especially compared to what it used be. Needs to be cared for better and perhaps times set apart for school visits.

Thoroughly enjoyed getting close to nature at this botanical garden. It's not as large as the Peradeniya gardens in Kandy but it is beautiful. Due to aching muscles from our World's End trek the day before, we hired out a golf cart to take us...More

This is a medium size garden , not too much detailed information labeling plants or scientific organization , however it is definitely an elaborate work which started in 1861 , has surprising collection of well organized trees and flowers arranged in a very beautiful and...More

A nice Botanical Garden with lots of trees, shrubs, flowers, bushes on hilly terrain. For foreigners, it is a bit expensive, Rs.1500 (USD =10). Those who can not walk on hilly areas, are discouraged. Lots of ups and downs. I was getting tired. On my...More

Way more interested by the ferns and the lush tropical part than the rose garden. This part is very impressive.

Lots of different flowers and trees, nice view of the surrounding mountains. Spacious setup, so very relaxing. Only a bit on the expensive side, 1500 roepie ($10) per person, where the locals get in for 60 roepie ($0,40)

Was veru nice to see that plants and trees from all over the world could be found in Nuwar Eliya. Could walk throughout, but got a feel of the place.

Yes, but limited supply of fresh flowers. If you are looking for flower plants, this would be the cheapest location to buy. Some nice plants are sold Rs 20, Rs 25, Rs 50 which could be easily priced more than Rs 100 out... More
