Since 1934 the Arboretum has been dedicated to restoring the land, advancing the science and practice of ecological restoration, and fostering Aldo Leopold’s land ethic. Dedicated staff, students, faculty and volunteers have created a rich landscape, renowned for its prairies, savannas, forests and wetlands -- and for the beauty of its gardens in spring with lilacs, magnolias and crabapples. A nice place to meet

The Arboretum has very nice meeting space and the catering is very good. The bonus is the opportunity to walk around the property.

I stopped in during the winter to see what was open. The drive in is very nice. There were quite a few cars in the lot. The visitors center is pretty small. They have quite a few walking trails, snowshoe trails, and ski trails.

If you are a fan of prairie restoration, you won't want to miss the birthplace -- Curtis Prairie. You can tell a lot of work and love goes into keeping this prairie vibrant. I visited in December, during a snowstorm, and someone had thoughtfully cleared (at considerable effort) some of the trails so they were accessible. Amazing winter colors, great... More

Even when fall is ending and winter is beginning, the Arboretum is perfect place to be. The colors are still beautiful and there is plenty of areas to sit on a bench and take in the scenery. But right as the colors are changing and the leaves are falling, you would be re missed to find photo shoot after photo... More

The Arboretum is located in the city limit near the belt line. Visitors can learn a lot about different type of plants, especially regional and local. The area is huge and is situated along the shoreline of lake Wingra and Lake Wingra Dam. The Visitor from out of town may need to start by visiting the Visitor Center that has... More

The Arboretum is divided into two different locations; north and south of the belt-line. From Grassland to Shrubland, Lake Wingra, and botanical research garden your will enjoy your time there. If you are feeling ambitious there is a 10K (6 mi) road/trail around the lake that is filled with smiling faces. Keep you eyes open for red fox, coyotes, wild... More

We drove here and stopped at the visitor center first to get some info. There are a lot of fields with trees and trails for walking. It is very peaceful and quiet and a wonderful place to take a walk or enjoy some nature.

Thank Shannon M
