What I saw was beautiful, but only 5 rooms on the 1st floor, is all you can tour. Grounds were all roped off. Lake view was great.

While we enjoyed visiting the home, and enjoyed the views and learning about the history/construction/etc. of the home, we were fairly underwhelmed. Probably not the highlight of anyone's trip. If you have NOTHING to do and would like a nice view of the lake then...More

We went for the Christmas tour and it was lovely. The staircase is magnificent as you enter and the rooms look out on Lake Mendota. The decor is historical as it should be.

The governor's mansion opens for public tours on Thursday afternoons. There is no admission charge, but they ask you to contribute a children's book, if possible. You tour about 5 rooms on the main floor and then can go out in the gardens and enjoy...More
