Excellent Tour. Don't miss it.

The tour was awesome and we learned a lot about the house. The garden and adjacent golf course were fabulous as well. Highly recommended.

We had a couple hours between when our plane landed and when we could check into the hotel, so I looked around for a local attraction that wouldn't take much time to tour. We decided on Longue Vue based on some reviews we had read, and I'm glad we did. We began with a tour of the grounds. The property... More

allow about 2 hours to tour the beautiful gardens and house on the longue vue estate. the house is well kept and decorated in seasonal decor. the gardens are manicured and planted year round to show off some color. you tour this estate on your own quite easily.

Longue Vue house is stunning and sits on several acres of charming gardens. It was very easy to get to--15 minute Uber ride from the Quarter. The house was built later than most houses on tour in the area and offers an interesting view of the mid-century social elite. The history of the family and their role in New Orleans... More

What a surprise to find this incredible English-style estate in New Orleans. Our guide, Chuck, brought this incredible slice of history to life with family anecdotes, while detailing the historical significance of the property. The gardens are spectacular, especially on a sunny day. A real treasure.

Long Vue was a gorgeous home to visit and tour. The architecture is amazing and the house offers some millwork not seen very often. Curved walls and matching curved glass doors. European designs and very fine craftsmanship. The gardens were quite enjoyable to walk through. Be sure to notice the brick walls and the small pebble walkways and how they... More

Long Vue was the family home of Edith and Edgar Stern, two of the wealthiest and most generous benefactors in the 300 year history of New Orleans. The house is magnificent and, as my wife observed, actually looks livable and lived in. Our docent, Wilma, did an exceptional job of integrating the story of the family with the history of... More

Away from the bustle of Canal Street and The French Quarter, Longue Vue House and Gardens offers visitors history and the beauty of nature. You can tour the beautiful house and/or explore the gardens. There are statues and fountains and benches to sit and wonder. There is a children's garden with hands-on activities. Check for special events for adults and... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
