Young and hyped neighborhood of New Orleans that is always an unusual slice of New Orleans life. It used to be the up and coming neighborhood, yet AirBNB has all but ruined its vibe. No one wants to live in an area that is transitional. And who are you?

Just outside the eastern fringe of the French Quarter, this neighborhood is home to several notable clubs that feature local musicians, many of whom are widely known and well regarded. Try Snug Harbor or the Spotted Cat, and look for talent like Ellis Marsalis and his family and other proteges, as well as guys like Trombone Shorty and Jon Cleary,... More

Stayed at the corner of Esplande and Bourbon. We could walk everywhere with no problem. Spent more time dining and listening to music on Frenchman.

Great little neighborhood. Must eat a Horn for breakfast or lunch. About a 10 minute walk form the French Quarter. Gives you a good sense of where to native NOLA folks live.

This is an "eclectic" part of NOLA, where the musicians and artsy people hang out. It is not anything special to me. Interesting, and supposed to be the local music hub happening place. I prefer to stay in the French Quarter, although this part of town is slightly cleaner.

What beautiful streets to walk around, people are friendly and helpful if you look confused as to where you are, which is easy to do. Quaint houses and nice neighborhood, on Frenchman St some great little jazz clubs.

Faubourg Marigny is perhaps the trendiest area in New Orleans, at present. Day and night, one can find something to enjoy. The architecture is absolutely lovely: so many colors and textures. Each time I visit I see something new architecturally when I stroll through the area. It also hosts many cafes, restaurants and music venues. There is so much to... More

Get away from the tourist in the quarter. Just the other side of Esplanade you will find this cool little enclave. Lots of live music, great food (I like the Praline Connection restaurant) and a cool little pop-up artist market in the evenings.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
