Such a great store for gold and silver coins and related collectibles. Barry Cohen visited with me for several minutes on the attributes of different gold coins that they have available. I was able to make an informed decision.

I've never seen artifacts so old not in a museum. I am not into history but went to appease my husband who is and I was glad I did. I enjoyed it even though I didn't understand the significance I can appreciate the fact that things from 300BC are pretty incredible. A lot of civil war weapons and coins. Kids... More

Royal Street has to be one of the nation's most interesting streets for art, antiques, and jewelry. Cohen and Sons is unique on a street famous for its unique antique stores. Cohen and Sons offers documents, maps, antique firearms, coins, and currency from bygone eras but especially from the Civil War. During our last visit we purchased a map from... More

This store is fine if all you want to do is look at some old weapons and coins, but don't try buying anything here or you will get ripped off. I spent a lot of time negotiating the sale of 2 gold coins with Jerry but wanted to think about it overnight. When I came back the next day he... More

While I couldn't afford anything in here, I sure enjoyed visiting looking and drooling. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

Disclaimer: I am absolutely nuts over historical artifacts. I am also passionate about antique firearms. That being said; this store is HEAVEN! The staff is knowledgable and friendly without the overbearing "sell, sell, sell" mantra I've experienced elsewhere. The store is unpretentious as well, putting the emphasis on the stock, which is both extensive and meticulously curated. I saw no... More

We have been dealing with the brothers at Cohens for at least 20 years. We never fail to stop in their store when we are in the area. Most of our sales have been over the telephone and we have never sent anything back. What they say is what you get.

Just walking down royal window shopping, we decided to see what was in this shoppe. Very interesting, however, the staff did not pay attention to anyone that did not intend to buy. Disappointing considering word of mouth is the best advertisement. Teenagers even enjoyed looking at the history of the products.

Like a museum. There are many antique weapons, money & coins. It is a bit pricey. This is a Collectors paradise.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
