We learned a lot, got some recipes to take home (praline, jambalaya, and red beans and rice), and had plenty to eat and the cost was similar to what we would had paid to go out to lunch anyway.

My husband and I attended the afternoon demonstration class. What a great way to learn about the culture and cuisine of this city. The chef was engaging, knowledgeable, and funny. The 3 courses she taught were amazingly delicious. Chicken fricassee, seafood gumbo, and bananas Foster. With a special praline made by her assistant to take with you. I highly recommend... More

This cooking class was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans. Chef Shava was not only a great chef, but extremely entertaining and knowledgeable about not only food, but the history of New Orleans as well. The food demonstration was excellent and the meal he prepared for us was one of the best meals I have ever... More

I would highly recommend the morning cooking class. The instructor was excellent and entertaining. The menu was great and we left educated and stuffed.

Great way to spend the morning in NOLA - watching your lunch being made, being entertained in the process, and then eating it up! Our instructor, Lynn, was charming and funny!

A great way to spend an afternoon learning how to cook like the locals. The menu varies. The instructors were fun and experienced. We enjoyed their stories. The class includes cooking, eating and then taking home your dishes frozen for transport.

What a great way to get a taste of New Orleans. Crescent City Cooks offered a 2 1/2 hour cooking demonstration class which includes lunch for $30. Lynn, the head instructor, was charming and knowledgeable. The support staff was equally wonderful. I highly recommend you give this activity a try. We made seafood gumbo, chicken fracases and bananas Foster. They... More

One of our group of six found this activity and we all agreed to take part during our trip. Not being a cook, I was only mildly interested but it turned out to be one of the best things we did! We had a ball with the chef and the other participants. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking... More

Just happened upon Crescent City Cooks when wandering French Quarter our 1st afternoon. What a find. Enjoyed an amazing demonstration class for lunch. And we could bring our own wine. Great value, learned some history of the city through their food. Highly recommend. One things we would do again if we are back in NOLA.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
