A great place to catch midnight movies

i love the old movies they play at midnight! Just one theater, so lots of seats and no noise bleeding over from other movies.

This is such a fantastic theater. It's been around forever so it has that really nice "old school" kind of feel. It's a single screen theater, so be sure to check the website for movie times and don't show up just expecting to see the latest releases whenever you want. I really like that they show a lot of old... More

I went here to see Captain America: Civil War. I reached here just in time for the show, bought the tickets and a bottle of water and rushed in. I was surprised that a bottle of water costs what it does in the US but this is what it costs everywhere. It was a comfortable hall with nice seats and... More

The Prytania Theatre is one of a kind. A single screen movie house set in the upper Garden District! Just Spectacular! Mr. Brunet hosts the Classic Movie Series (from Gone with the Wind to Breakfast at TIffany's) his stories of working in the theatre are the best! There is late night showings for the 'hip' crowd. The Prytania shows the... More

I've been lucky in my life to travel the US and live in nice places, but few places have charmed me a much as my two visits to the Prytania for a classic movie (shown Wednesday & Sunday mornings). At 91, Mr. Brunet still warmly greets movie goers at the door, then shares a few anecdotes about the film. After... More

Friendly staff, very comfy seats, nice snack bar, first-run films as well as vintage film nights. A great find in New Orleans!

I love this place so much. Single screen with great quality picture and sound. They have great concessions, and it's simply one of the most beautiful theaters I have ever been in.

The Prytania is an unspoiled theater offering some of New Orleans' most interesting movie selections. Tucked away on an uptown street near the campuses of Loyola and Tulane, the Prytania does not offer the most high-tech moviegoing experience, but it is a friendly place, not owned by a chain and seemingly programmed by people who really appreciate a good movie.... The Prytania existed when I was a kid. Throughout the years of massive blockbusters requiring screens the size of battleships, sound systems with enough power to deafen neighbors, and IMAX 3D everything, Prytania has held its own. The theater has a loyal following. They will periodically host older movies, themes, and fun events to generate revenue which you rarely see... More

This is the last of the original Movie Theaters that is still being used for movies. Center of the New Orleans Film Festival.

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
