The Newcomb Art Museum builds on the legacy of the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, founded in 1886 as the first degree-granting coordinate college for women in America. Presenting inspiring exhibitions and programs that engage communities both on and off campus, the museum fosters the creative exchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary collaborations around innovative art and design. The museum preserves and advances scholarship on the Newcomb and Tulane art collections.

It’s a sweet museum, it feels good to be there, with an interesting range of exhibitions. The story behind the Tiffany windows is great. Also, the Tulane campus is beautiful. I thought the “Women of Newcomb” exhibition was interesting. The Newcomb was a lovely surprise.

I took a 50-60 minute streetcar ride to Tulane, walked around campus for about 30-40 minutes looking for the right place (abysmal signage) and finally found the Gallery. The Degas exhibit was wonderful and offered a view of the painter not commonly seen. When I...More

If the Newcomb women's college exhibition is up (anywhere), definitely go see it for its stunning craftsman style work, not only pottery but textiles and printing. A love walk through the Tulane campus after a streetcar ride from downtown.

Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the
greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down
the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate
feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the
students living in the area ensure that Uptown and
Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly
fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife
and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s
