Top ways to experience New Orleans Botanical Gardens and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.

    Stunning!
WOW - we had no idea how extensive these gardens were. This place is amazing! On Wednesdays, residents can get enter for free. Non-residents have to pay a small fee, but it is well worth it for everything you get to experience while there. The gardens are exquisitely maintained and each area has a theme. There are lovely Japanese gardens, cacti and succulents, a kitchen garden, rose gardens, and so much more. The walking paths are well-maintained. There is a train garden with historic information and scenes from the New Orleans area. There is ample parking available at no cost. We spent hours just walking around and enjoying everything the garden has to offer. If you are a solo traveler, bring a book, find a bench, and just relax in the quietness of the gardens.

    Pretty good
Pretty good botanical gardens. Mostly constructed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Work Progress Administration in the 1930's. Only disappointment is the gift shop doesn't open till noon while the gardens open at 10 am.

The Botanical Garden, City Park and Cafe du Monde - a three-in-one treat!
We thoroughly enjoyed wandering through this thoughtfully designed botanical garden! There is even a children's section called Storyland. The Cafe du Monde location across the street in City Park was an added plus! So skip The French Quarter, and enjoy your beignets and coffee in a beautiful green space, and then visit The Botanical Garden!

Disappointing. I think this garden focuses on night lighting and that’s about it. Things are definitely an after thought. We go to a botanical garden whenever we can find one in our travels. This we could have skipped.

All I can say is that this place was beautiful! Didn’t expect it to be so nice. We were there on a hot day so didn’t stay long but would be nice if the weather was better

I’m absolutely in love with this park. Walking the path with friends, checking out the sculptures was pretty fun. The entire park seemed to be so beautifully maintained. It’s such a warm, friendly, & refreshing place to visit. I witnessed nothing but couples, friends, and families enjoying themselves peacefully throughout the entire visit.
It’s a place to just breathe, and let the stress go…I’ll definitely be back.💜

The Botanical Gardens were the most beautiful place I visited in New Orleans. $12 admission which was very worth it. The gardens are magnificent with the most beautiful Waterlilies I have ever seen. The greenhouses are so fantastic and I loved every minute of our visit. I would recommend the gardens to anyone who is craving some peaceful meditation time as I knew it would be a party city but New Orleans never stops.
