A great spot for a break after the wildlife loop and Needles Highway. Beautiful lake with a pleasant walk to stretch the legs. Lots of people enjoying a swim or cayaking. A store there for snacks, a drink or souvenirs.

We took the Needles HWY drive and stopped here to hike. The lake is so beautiful! There is a nice loop around the lake that families can take to see it from all angles. There were a lot of people paddleboarding, swimming, and having picnics....More

This is a really unique lake, extremely picturesque. We enjoyed strolling around, the many trailheads, and even the nearby snacks and shop. It is very busy though because of the many activities available to you (hiking, swimming, boarding, etc.). Be prepared to have a hard...More

Sylvan Lake is peaceful. It is also the launching pad to the Little Devil's Tower Trail. The trail is not for everyone as it is moderately strenuous. Even if you are in good shape, your heart will race a bit and the last two hundred...More

This is a beautiful lake with amazing photo opportunities if you get here early enough. The walk around it takes about 30 minutes, is fairly easy. There were lots of geese with babies when we visited. Lots of beautiful photo opportunities.

After walking around the path and climbing on the rocks we sure enjoyed sitting by the lake in the shade. It is truly beautiful and very relaxing.

We were on a tour that took us by the lake. We didn't have time to get out and explore but would have lived to. It is an awesome setting with lots of different views for picture taking!!

We wanted a scenic spot with some hiking and we found it at Sylvan Lake. Unlike the rest of the area (the Rushmore area in general), Sylvan was quaint, quiet and relaxing.

This is gorgeous to view from the side of the road, but even more fun to park and experience! We decided to go to the beach the day after we drove by this gem. We parked and headed clockwise toward the beach across the way....More

The campground we checked out did. I would recommend the stockade campgrounds or coolage campground for ease to maneuver an rv.

It was very cold first week of June. No one was swimming. People were using boats and such but it would be too cold to get in.
