Stopped by here on a Wednesday afternoon to get hiking information and received misinformation from the rangers. Both gentlemen seemed perplexed but informed me that the trail to Black Elk Peak was closed for repairs until Monday which was disappointing. Turns out the trail had been closed that week but was reopening on Friday. Thankfully I stopped by the trailhead on Thursday and saw a notice with this correct information. As this is one of the most popular trails in Custer, seems like they should be pretty up to date on this information. Heard another ranger tell someone at the summit of Black Elk Peak that she was not aware of any hike to Little Devil's Tower which of course there is and is also one of the most popular hikes in the park.

This was our first stop in the park to plan our day. We only had a short time to spend at the park and wanted to make sure we made the most of it. There were several rangers available to ask questions and they had some more modern displays of the park. It was very informative and helped us decide what we could fit into our trip.

Definitely stop by the visitors center and see the movie. It's only about 20 minutes long but gives you a great overview and the history of the park. Also ask the rangers there where the buffalo are before you head out onto the wild life loop.

Small-ish, but really well done visitors center. Cool history and artifacts that help you learn about the park and area. Make sure to take in the 18 minute movie, it was running on the top and bottom of the hour. Side note: We arrived a few minutes before opening and the staff could nor get in as a Bison was scratching himself on a rock in front of the rear entrance. Very cool!

I was pleasantly surprised with this state park. Ordinarily state parks are just average. This state park was phenomenal. In fact, in the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps developed the land of Custer State Park. The visitor center is first class with a movie which I highly recommend. It tells the story of the park, and I was quite moved by it. While not a lot of exhibits, the ones that are there are very well done.

W enjoyed the displays and found lots of info here. The theater is excellent, great seating and screen. The film, narrated by Kevin Costner, has excellent (drone) photography of the black hills and Custer park wildlife.

The visitor center at the park is a wealth of information. The interactive map was particularly interesting and the people working there are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Taking the time to visit is well worth your time and will definitely enrich your visit to the park.

We watched a film in the Visitor Center before heading out. They had restrooms and water bottle stations. Be sure to ask about wildlife sightings. We went down 2 gravel roads we wouldn't have gone on otherwise.

This is a great place to get out and take a break. You can see the burros here by the picnic area and there are maps inside that give you an idea of where to spot the wildlife. The staff inside is also there to answer any questions.

Make sure to visit and go to the film in the theatre about Custer state park. It is 20 minutes and beautifully done. I learned a lot and came away with a greater appreciation of the park.
