The highlight of my trip to Salzburg was my excursion to Mondsee, where I spent some time at Basilica St. Michael. The beautiful exterior pales in comparison to the beautiful scene that awaits you inside the church. There are many small souvenirs to choose from, and for a small donation you can also take home small bottles of Holy Water,... More

Our group included the ensemble choir from my daughter's school. They were privileged to perform a 30 minute concert for us and the other folks visiting the church. The church has multiple organs and is as beautiful as it was during the filming of the Sound of Music. The town is a picture postcard of Austria. We had wonderful pastry... More

We visited the very pretty village of Mondsee during the Lakes and Mountains tour from Salzburg. It was dusk when we arrived and the place looked stunning in the snow with all the Christmas lights and decorations. Sadly we visited in early January after the Christmas Market had closed but the wooden stalls were still in situ so we could... More

The Roman Catholic Basilica Mondsee, consecrated to St. Archangel Michael, is a parish church belonging to the dean's office Frankenmarkt in the diocese of Linz. Pope John Paul II raised the church to Basilica in 2005. The Basilica is a protected monument with the entire complex of the former monastery. The basilica was also used for filming the marriage of... More

We enjoyed our visit to this church as part of the Sound of Music Tour. Even though we are not die hard fans of the movie, it was enjoyable to see the interior of the church. There is also a gift shop in the front of the church with many appealing souvenirs.

We visited this church as part of a Sound of Music tour. It is full of gilt and is beautiful. Lots to see, but most visitors are only interested because this is where Maria and the Captain married in the movie.

A large church in Mondsee, with large altar. As I visited it in Advent, had the oppotunity to see nice nativity scene. Besides being a cultural monument, it is known for the weding scene from the film "The Sound of Music".

We visited here as part of the Sound of Music tour from Salzburg; it is where they get married in the film. The church from the outside is really pretty and stands really well in the square surrounded by Christmas trees, market stalls and fairy lights. The inside is quite gloomy and dark and very detailed; it doesn't seem to... More
