A combination of chairlifts, gondolas and cable cars whisk you up to different points on the mountain, gorgeous choice of walks. It's is very steep in places, walking poles needed for going downhill.

I walked a few time up to the top. What a great view down to the lake of Zell. Many people use it as a jumping point of parachute, even tandem :)

The lift was the only enjoyable thing over there. The signs were not clear at all. The lift chairs were closed. We kept walking without any clear route. Tickets were expensive. I don't think I'll go back there again.

This mountain belongs between one of my favorite thanks to its extraordinary views of Alps and Zeller See. It is good point for hiking during the summer days and skiing in the winter. You can try a paragliding there as well.

There is a beautiful 40 minute walk from Scmittenhohe to Sonnkogel (where there is a children's playground and a nice Gasthof to admire the view and have a snack). This is a 360 degree panoramic walk with interesting themed... More

Hi! We are hoping to stay in the zell am see region next summer. Please could you explain to me how the cable cars work in the summer at Schmitten? I understand that you get the Schmittenhöhebahn cable car up to the top and that you can park right near to the bottom cable car station. Is the Schmittenhöhebahn cable car the one designed by Porsche? There also seems to be one called the trassXpress... is this also available during the summer? Once you are at the top, from the map, it seems you can only visit the lakes if you want to walk down towards Zell am see, along the Areitbahn route? People keep talking about a walk to the Sonnenalm which takes between 25 - 60 mins (according to different opinions). Is this a steep downhill walk? Our youngest will only be 4 so we need to make sure its practical for us! Once you've walked to the sonnenalm, I presume you then take the Sonnkogelbahn chairlift, followed by the Sonnenalmbahn cable car? If we were to do this walk, are there things to keep our three Daughters (who will be 4, 7 and 9) occupied? How big is the play area on the way? Where abouts is the Schmidolin's Baptism of Fire located and what exactly is it please? Lastly, am looking at the prices... Is the SUMMIT CHARGER-TICKET 2000M a return ticket? It is 25 euros. Or do you have to pay for the ascent and descent separately? Am sorry to ask a million questions, just want to get my facts right!! Thanks!!
