Never having the urge to visit Medjugorie, I did go recently when invited by a group of friends who have been several times before. The journey in the coach from Dubrovnik airport, along the Croatian coast was beautiful. Medjugorje is located in the southern part of Bosnia Herzegovina, which used to be a former republic of Yugoslavia. Bosnia and Herzegovina... More

Part of an organized group, we participated in the evening worship program, but importantly were familiarized with the history of the region and the visions which began 35 years ago. So many people of faith seeking reassurance and celebrating their beliefs, it is a place unlike any other I have visited.

We visited Medjugorje as part of our Pilgrimage Trip for Jubilaeum Misericordia. The place was not like Lourdes nor Fatima. The St James church where all the mass was taken place was simple, humble yet graceful and meaningful. We decided to go to the Apparition Hill early in the morning. We started our journet by car to go uphill. When... More

One square mostly made of rock in town Međugorje in close vicinity to church. If you plan to visit Međugorje, you won't be able to miss it since it is directly next to church. Nice sight.

Most of the people around you will be religious and it is a little freaky at first. Like, really freaky. But nobody forces you do anything, pray, climb mountains. If you want, you can just sit around all day on the terraces of the (numerous) bars and drink beer or some of the local wine. A lot of the Irish... More

It´s hard to get to, Bosnia is an underdeloped counry with no tourist vocations whatsoever (especially compared to Croatia!), the church itself is simple. But the faithful must climb the (very rocky) mountain to get the full Medjugorge experience. Very emotional.
