Was an interesting experience in spite of some some significant vog. Long road with mountainous or volcanic vistas either side. But ultimately it's a road - gets you one place to another, not really an attraction.

We drove through Saddle road on our way to Kona airport from Hilo at the end of our ten day trip in Hawaii. After seeing so many interesting attractions and landscapes, the road was just another scenic route, not that great but not bad either....More

Great route to Hilo! We saw soft rolling hills, lava mounds and great ocean views at the start. Very peaceful.

Since Saddle road was redone, the ride is fast and smooth. Driving between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on a clear day is spectacular. Only one caveat, there is no gas or only one porta potty stop along the way. The porta potty is set...More

Amazing views of lava flows and foliage growth in lava fields. View of Mauna Kea. When you drive at night, the stars are absolutely breathtaking!

As someone who knew and drove the original saddle road, this well designed high speed hiway is an impressive engineering feat. Well done!

This road used to be a scenic attraction but you were too busy trying to negotiate all the twists and turns to appreciate the saddle. With this new road the saddle is open to viewing as well as a much quicker trip between the two...More
