No longer at Kona Airport due to new construction. No word on if it will reopen or where. Too bad that a local hero loses his place to "progress"

One of Hawai'i's own sons celebrated in this museum in his honor. Hard to visit since it is at the airport. I think they need to move it in town so more people can enjoy.

We are space buffs so naturally, we thought we'd go look for it. Our Navigation system in our Rental vehicle even had the route to get there (aka: Kailua-Kona Airport). When we 'arrived at our destination' we couldn't find it. We drove around the entire airport and the private airport as well until we finally asked a security guard. When... More

This was a touching tribute to Ellison Onizuka, Astronaut from Hawaii. Brief and educational. If you arrive early for a flight, it is definitely worth it. If you have kids, an educational trip for them.

As many will tell you, this place really seems more for the kids than anything, but it's still worth a stop while it's there. Sadly, the TSA is taking over the building in March of 2016, and the museum will be closing. Here, you can learn a brief history of astronaut Ellison Onizuka, and in particular for the young'ns, learn... More

If you extra time before your flight I suggest you come here. It is named after the Hawaiian astronaut who went into space. This is very good for children as it has many hands on exhibits.

This is astronomy heaven that should appeal to all ages. Enjoy the view and watch the video. Bring a lunch and sit on the picnic tables overlooking the world below.

We originally thought we would spend about 20-30 minutes, but ended up spending about 1.5 hours due to the many activities that engaged our daughter. Some activities included learning how to simulate the use of a robotic arm, marble gravity pull toys, gyroscope and interactive displays. Unfortunately some of the displays were out of order. Adults also had plenty to... More

What an important history museum. It should be a "Must Visit" list to visitors to the Big Island; especially parents with children. They have lots of "hands-on" displays. Do view the 18 minute video on Ellison's growing up period. We were very fortunate on our visit to meet his sister, who volunteers there.

This is a neat exhibit at the Kona Airport displaying space and astronaut memorabilia from the only Hawaiian to go to outer space...Ellison Onizuka!
