Our 4 kids loves this beach! Initially we went the first time to see the spinner dolphins and what an amazing sight they are to see! You have to arrive between 8:30-9am to see the dolphins. Our eldest daughter was fortunate she also saw some migrating whales. We then stayed for a while to play and enjoy the surf and... More

Nice spot to spend the afternoon. This is very popular with tourists and locals alike. Be careful frolicking in the water as the waves and undertow can be quite strong. Very rocky beach, but well worth a visit.

A little crowded on school holidays. Very pretty site but..if you are not experienced swimmer or with waves stay out of the water. This bay during winter has reduced sand area, sometimes not much at all. Waves, when wind driven can be dangerous to beginners and novices, I've pulled out boogie board tourists and children when the parents think it... More

Beautiful white sand beach. Not the best for snorkeling but great for a relaxing day in the sun. On the weekends parking can become a bit of a problem and the beach may be crowded - it is not huge like Hapuna. Even during the week, come early if you want a parking spot in the fairly small parking lot.... More

Very fine soft sand, wade out a long ways on soft sandy bottom. Just a little ways north of the Kona airport.

My mother grew up in Hawaii, so we visited every other year when I was a child. As an adult, I haven't been fortunate enough to make it back as often; however, when I do find myself on the big island, this is one of my favorite beaches. Absolutely gorgeous, and never too crowded (plus it's free). While in Hawaii,... More

Went on a Sunday and it was a bit crowded but still had a nice relaxing beach day. Waves weren't to crazy. Enjoyed a refreshing shave ice while we were there.

This is actually a state park. There is a lengthy drive in (mile?) down a now-paved road, parking near the beach (come early), showers to shower off the sand at the end. A little food truck/stand was there when we visited with poke, quesadillas, .... The surf can be a bit rough, the water is generally warm, the colors are... More

An absolute stunner of a beach - as soon as you see this beach, it takes your breath away - the colours are incredible. Can get busy but so worth it. And there's been a food truck pulled up there for the last few weeks now which offers a great poke plate or quesadillas and shave ice - a great... More

I live in Hawaii. This beach has some of the most beautiful clarity and color! While not a very large cove, it has ample places to find some sand and set out your towel. Wear tennis shoes to scramble over some of the exposed lava. Come early during the weekday to avoid large crowds. You can find some good swells... More
