    Pleasant Beach
This is a very pleasant beach site close to Kailua-Kona. The surf was not as rough as at Kailua-Kona, but that's a good thing! Water was nice (for February) and yes, the color is like its pictures. It can be a bit of a walk from car parking along the road side. There is a turn-around spot at the entrance. I saw many drivers drop off their passengers and beach gear at the entrance then return up the road to park the car.

    Lovely Kona area beach
A great small beach. Lots of boogie board waves. Lifeguard on duty. Past the guard stand there is a wider sand area. A bit of a hike over rock to get there but we’ll worth the effort. Didn’t seem to be a great snorkel site. Parking lot fills up early. Restrooms there too.

    Beautiful Sunset!!
Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! After a day of touring the island and visiting one of the National Park sites we took our grandsons to Manini’owali Beach to play for a little while. The beach has a lot of lava rock and some sand (not a sand beach). The waves were very big coming in so we did not let the boys get in the water much, but they loved playing in a little cove between lava rocks! They met several new friends while there! We were treated with the most spectacular sunset, the Best one of our entire trip!! Absolutely gorgeous!! We did see a couple whale while we were at the beach!! There were working bathrooms at this beach! Would definitely recommend this beach for the views and scenery, not so much as a beach if you have little ones with you!!

    Absolutely stunning
Excellent place to body surf. Reminded my family of how the wave pool used to be at our regional water park-fun, fun, fun, just bordering on a little dangerous. Sand to warm up on and great showers to rinse all the sand off before climbing back into the car tired and happy.

    Beyond Description
WOW! This beach is so beautiful, words can't give it justice. You have to see it for yourself. The water is crystal clear, teal in color, and full of coral and fish. We were snorkeling and a giant turtle swam right near us. It was exciting. The beach is small, so arrive early. Parking is free, but as it gets busy the further you will have to park. Restrooms and showers available. There are some rocks, but not as many as other snorkeling spots, once you get past them you're good. Pinch yourself because you will think you're in Bora Bora. Just beautiful.

WOW! Luckily our tour guide to the summit of Mauna Kea suggested we come here!
This is such a pretty beach, even the drive down from the highway is very scenic! It’s pretty close to Kailua, around 10 to 15 minutes north of the airport. It has both sand and lava rocks and an incredible crystal blue color for the water. You will see turtles, but please keep your distance once you do as they are protected. There is also some pretty good snorkeling along the rocks along the right side (when looking out towards the water) of the beach. The further you go out, the more you will see. Around the same area, some people would climb up this large rock to jump off. There are bathrooms and showers but no parking lot, so you need to park along the road to the beach. The later you arrive, the further up from the entrance you will end up having to park unless you get lucky with someone leaving. There is also a lifeguard station. Keep in mind, there is little to no shade on the beach so bring your own if you need some. Definitely worth a visit. We liked it so much we wanted to come a second time but did not work out with our schedule. Next visit, we’ll put this on top of our beach list!

This is what people dream about when they think of a Hawaiian beach
This was my wife’s favorite beach, because of the sand and the crystal clear blue water. The gate opens around 8:00 AM. We got there about a quarter to eight so we got to pick our space (there were still plenty when we left at nine on a Thursday morning. I snorkeled off the north side near some rocks and saw plenty of fish but no turtles or dolphins; maybe they come later in the day. This is a beach I would stay at for hours if I had some chairs and a shade maker. Bring a cooler full of drinks and snacks and you’re good to go. Enjoy!

    Best beach near Kona
Arrive at 8am to get a parking spot right down near the beach. Otherwise it's a really long walk down to the beach. You will want to bring some kind of shade (a tent that you can stake down) that will handle the wind and provide relief from the sun. Best snorkeling is first thing in the morning. And although there are lots of lava rocks you will find plenty of stretches of soft sandy beach for safe swimming. No water shoes needed.

    Picture perfect beach
This beach was what I always dreamed Hawaii beaches would be like. Stunningly beautiful water and large stretches of soft sand. The waves were perfect for boogie boarding and there was great snorkeling along the sides. The only cons are you need to get there early to guarantee a parking spot and there is no shade available so you will need to bring an umbrella.

    Beautiful
Beautiful clear water, soft sand. Lifeguards on duty. Some days there are big waves here, some are more chill. Not a ton of space. Parking lot & bathrooms on site. Saw some goats here once. We had to get out of the water one day we went because there was a shark! Rare occasion but you have to stay out of the water for 2 hours until the lifeguards can confirm there are no sharks around. Cool to experience that!

My husband was determined to go to a beach, even though it was the weekend, and likely very busy. The concierge at our hotel, and the internet said Manini'owali Beach at Kua Bay was good, so off we went. Very busy, with limited parking in the tiny parking lot, and then parking was all along the road, but we lucked into a good spot. We walked down toward the beach. It's very pretty, but you have to traverse a long, very uneven, rocky path, through lava fields and groups of people with their towels and umbrellas, to get there. It was jam packed, and I really don’t know how they all made it down to the beach! It just felt too unsafe to hike over all the lava rocks wearing sandals and carrying stuff, so we just left. There are washrooms by the parking lot. No shade or trees. No food or drink available.

Lovely beach. Has a decent sized sandy portion. Parking is by the sides of the road. Come early or later in the day for closer parking. Good sized waves for boogie boarding and surfing.

Favorite beach in Kona. Can snorkel and boogie board. Bring food since no food services and an umbrella because no shade. Arrive early to get parking.

Beautiful pristine beach with gentle, fun waves. Good for snorkeling. Picture perfect. Clean sand. Well- attended, but it wasn't horribly crowded when we were there.
