We have never done a helicopter tour before, but since the Volcanic National Park was closed when we got here, we booked to fly over the sight. The pilot, Keith, was friendly and knew so much about this island. The ladies in the office were...More
We took an incredible Grand Circle air tour of the Big Island courtesy of Paradise Helicopters. What an experience!!! The staff was really great from the start and once we separated into two groups, we had the chance to meet our pilot and get some...More
This is the first time we have ever taken a helicopter tour and it was incredible. We flew doors on, and we had perfect clear weather throughout. We took a full day tour, which included a land tour with Hawaii Forest and Trail which took...More
Class outfit. Cloudy weather one day so they gave many options. I took a next day tour. Expert pilot Dan navigated around, over, and under clouds for views. Able to see some Volcanic activity at the ocean entries and smoldering fissure 8. They extended the...More
In June of 2018 fissure 42 was pumping lava at an unimaginable rate. Flying over the volcano was one of the things we simply had to do on Hawaii, and I am happy we did, even though it cost a pretty penny.
From the pre-flight...More
We booked a private charter from Paradise Helicopters out of Hilo, open doors over the volcano area. Even though there was no red lava it was a great flight and we highly recommend an open door CHARTER flight.
Our second flight was out of Kona...More

It is always great to hear how much our guests enjoy flying with us, and I'm glad that you and your wife had a great time flying out of Hilo. I genuinely apologize that you and your wife did not enjoy your experience...More
My wife and I had a terrific experience overall as our pilot, Matt navigated us around and between the Kona, Kilauea, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, valleys and waterfalls, lava flows, craters, mac nut plantations, forests and beaches on and over the island of...More
This trip cost $650+ a person and did not deliver on experience. We did the circle island tour that normally operates counterclockwise but the day of our tour there was some weather in the southern part of the island that they wanted to give a...More

The seats were assigned based on the weights of the other passengers on the day so there's no way to 100% guarantee the window without paying for the upgrade. I'd be surprised if swapping is an option (there wasn't much consultation on the day - we were told where to sit as we were boarding and there wasn't much time for discussion) but might be worth checking with the company directly - they were super responsive on email and very helpful.
I did buy the guarantee and ended up on almost empty tour - everyone had a window seat anyway. I suspect I would pay for it again but I'm a solo traveller with no option to swap. good luck!

I upgraded to the co-pilot's seat, and it was worth every penny. They do seat people according to weight, in order to balance the the helicopter, and I was not going to be guaranteed a great seat if I was one of the lighter weight passengers (turns out, I was one of the lighter weight ones). When I called to confirm and to find out about seating, and to request a window, I learned the co-pilot seat was still available. I snagged it!
