Beautiful and cleansing cloud forest tour!
The tour was excellent! The forest was abundant with various tropical plants and our guide Diane was very knowledgable of the land and species! She gave a great background of the origins of the sanctuary and how it works with the ecosystems of Hawaii. Both educational and great exercise for the body, mind and soul! I highly recommend taking this tour to experience cloud forest's on the Big Island of Hawaii!

Cloud forest education and energizing hike
I really enjoyed this amazing hike through your family’s cloud forest sanctuary. It was not only educational, but also enlightening and energizing. The heart of the cloud forest, which Diana explained is where the little tree was planted for your grandmother is a very special place. When I walked into that area, I felt the energy, the peace, and at the same time, just being alive, and really appreciate the love, time, and energy that your dad and the family has put into this amazing ecosystem.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review! We're thrilled to hear that you had such a positive and enriching experience during your guided walk through our family's cloud forest sanctuary. It warms our hearts to know that you found the journey enlightening. I love hearing that you felt the energy and peace that emanates from the "heart of the sanctuary". Many people who walk through the sanctuary express they felt different in certain parts of the forest, which shows that when visitors come with an open mind and heart they can more deeply connect with self and nature, providing a truly unique and meaningful experience. Your kind words acknowledging the love, time, and energy that "grandpa Norman" and the entire family has invested in nurturing this ecosystem means a lot to us. It has been a labor of love and a shared passion for preserving the natural beauty of the cloud forest. We are incredibly grateful for visitors like you who appreciate the dedication and care that goes into maintaining this special space. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We look forward to welcoming you back to the sanctuary whenever you're ready for another inspiring adventure! Mahalo!

    Cloud forest experience
A terrific experience! The hike was led by the daughter of the horticultural expert who bought and developed the land. It was quite evident how passionate her entire family is about the cloud forest and how much they enjoy sharing their knowledge and respect for it. I’m in my late 70s and had no problems with the short hike—in fact, I’m sorry that I couldn’t fit the longer one into my schedule. Do this—how many other chances will you have to hug a rainbow eucalyptus!
I'm thrilled to hear about your wonderful experience on the hike led by the daughter of the horticultural expert and founder, Norman Bezona. It sounds like you had a truly immersive and informative journey through the cloud forest. It's heartwarming to know that our family's passion for the environment and their respect for the land shone through during the experience. It's impressive that age didn't hinder your enjoyment of the hike at all, and it's a testament to both your spirit and the hike's accessibility. It's understandable that you regret not being able to take on the longer hike given your schedule, but the fact that you were able to appreciate the beauty of the shorter one speaks volumes about the quality of the experience. And yes, you're absolutely right – the opportunity to hug a rainbow eucalyptus is a special experience that not many people get to enjoy. Did you know that hugging a tree, also known as "tree hugging" or "tree therapy," is a practice believed to have physical, mental, and emotional benefits? It's so good for you! So keep hugging trees! Your review highlights the special moments that this hike provides and encourages others to take part in such a special adventure. Thank you for sharing your perspective and giving others the inspiration to explore and embrace the beauty of nature in a personal and meaningful way.

Not really a "hike" more of an educational walk
I have been to the Big Island several times before and was looking for something different to see with my teenage son who likes to hike too. We did this tour and although we really enjoyed it, I think we were expecting more of a hike. It was really just a guided tour around the forest talking about the trees, plants and history of the area. Diane was very knowledgable and interesting to listen to. I would recommend this if you're really interested in plants and ecology.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience with us here at the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary on the island of Hawaii. We truly appreciate your insights and are glad to hear that you and your teenage son enjoyed the tour. We apologize if the level of hiking did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Our aim with this tour is to provide a comprehensive understanding of this unique tropical ecosystem, the history and ecology of the area. We understand that different visitors have varying preferences when it comes to the level of physical activity during a tour. While this particular tour may not have been as strenuous as a traditional hike, we're pleased that you found Diane's knowledge and passion engaging. Your recommendation for this tour to individuals who are particularly interested in plants and ecology is valuable, as it aligns well with the tour's focus. We're constantly working to improve our offerings, and your feedback helps us provide new experiences that meet the desires of a broader audience. Our family mission is to facilitate the opportunity for guests to connect with nature in new ways and leave with a greater level of appreciation and respect for tropical ecosystems in Hawaii and around the world through the educational messages we provide. If you decide to visit Kona again and are looking for more rigorous hiking experiences, please feel free to reach out to us. We'd be happy to suggest alternative experiences that might better suit your preferences. Thank you once again for choosing our guided walk through the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Mahalo!

    Learning while immersed in beauty!
What a great experience and Drew (our guide) taught us so much about the history of the area, the interconnectedness of the ecosystem, while being engaging, warm and attending to all questions. My whole family felt like this was one of our favorite parts of our trip (including my hard to please teenager!). Totally make time for this beautiful, unique place! We also enjoyed walking to Mountain Thunder Coffee (5 -10 minutes up the road) after enjoying the Cloud Forest tour.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with Drew as your guide during your guided tour here at the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. We're thrilled to hear that you and your family had such an enriching and enjoyable time learning about the area's history and ecosystem. It's fantastic to know that Drew's engaging and warm approach, along with his attentiveness to your questions, added to the overall quality of your experience. We're delighted to have been a favorite part of your trip while visiting Hawaii, even earning the approval of your hard-to-please teenager! Our goal is to create memorable experiences for all our visitors, and your positive feedback is truly heartwarming. It's also great to hear that you took advantage of the beautiful surroundings by walking to Mountain Thunder Coffee afterward. It sounds like the perfect way to continue the day after the Kona Cloud Forest tour. Thank you for choosing our guided tour and for taking the time to leave such a kind and detailed review. We appreciate your support and hope to welcome you and your family back for more amazing adventures in the future!

    Gorgeous Plantlife
This was such a beautiful, peaceful tour! It was a short hike, although very hilly and lots of roots and such to watch out for. Make sure to wear a rain jacket! The plants are fantastic, and our guide has to much information about all of them.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your beautiful and peaceful experience through the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. Our family takes pride in creating memorable experiences for our guests. Indeed, the trail does have some hills and roots to navigate over. It's the nature of being on a 200 year old lava flow with only about 6 inches of decomposed plant material. Most of the trees roots are on the surface. That's a good thing to note! And, bringing a light rain jacket is definitely a great tip, as nature can sometimes surprise us with its weather. It's fantastic to know that you found the plants impressive and that our guide provided you with a wealth of information. We're passionate about fostering a deeper connection with the natural world. Your feedback encourages us to keep up the good work and continue offering enriching experiences. We appreciate your support and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for another enjoyable tour in the future! Mahalo!

    A favorite!
This was by far my favorite guided tour activity on the Big Island and I have visited the island twice and done many of the most popular activities. Brooke, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the cloud forest ecosystem, plant life and history of how the Hawaiian Islands formed. In this small group tour, we learned about the family’s conservation efforts and what can be done in a short amount of time to help preserve and restore our environments. The misty climate was refreshing and it was mosquito free! We all left feeling rejuvenated by nature and hopeful that we can each do our part to help. The hiking was slow and easy, although you do have to watch your step so you don’t trip on roots.
I'm thrilled to hear that you had such a positive experience on our guided tour at the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. It's wonderful to know that out of all the activities you've tried, this one stood out as your favorite. Brooke is one of our knowledgeable guides and a family member, and she takes great pride in sharing her expertise about the cloud forest ecosystem, plant life, and the fascinating history of the Hawaiian Islands' formation. We're truly dedicated to sharing the important messages about forest conservation and the threat of human impact, and it's heartwarming to hear that you appreciated learning about our family's commitment to stewarding this special slice of heaven. The misty climate indeed adds a unique touch to the experience, and it's definitely a relief that you didn't have to deal with mosquitos during the tour. They come an go depending on the temperature and the amount of rain we've had lately. The intent of our guided tours, along with education, is to provide a rejuvenating connection with nature, and it's delightful that you left feeling refreshed and hopeful about contributing to environmental preservation. The leisurely pace of the hike is intentional, allowing everyone to soak in the beauty of the surroundings while also being cautious about navigating the terrain and learning new things along the way. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we're truly grateful for your support. We look forward to the possibility of welcoming you back on another memorable tour in the future. If you have any friends or family looking for a similar experience, we'd be thrilled if you recommended us to them. Aloha!

    A real treat
What a great tour! We had been to several gardens on the islands, but this was different. We saw some of the same plants, but the environment was completely different. As we reached the upper levels, the clouds came in, and changed the atmosphere. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the work his family is doing to maintain the ecosystem. Wear sturdy shoes and bring bug spray.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour of our garden. It's wonderful to know that you noticed the unique environment and atmosphere that sets us apart from other gardens and forests on the islands. The interplay of familiar plants within a distinct ecosystem is indeed one of the highlights of our location. We're glad the changing weather added an extra layer of charm to your visit, especially as the clouds rolled in on the upper levels. Nature's little surprises can truly enhance the overall experience. Our family takes great pride in their knowledge and passion for the ecosystem. We believe in the importance of maintaining a healthy and diverse environment, and it's heartwarming to hear that Drew's dedication came across during your tour. Thank you once again for choosing to explore the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for more unique experiences and discoveries. Enriching and Calming Hike
So much education on such a rare ecosystem. All the variety of flora, and a bit of fauna, too. Our guide, Sierra, gave so much education to the history of the forest area, the origin the plantings, and details specific to each plants. If you have an interest in the wonders of natures, this is a can't miss tour. Trees and plants from all over the world and native species too! Our tour was extra immersive as we experienced the 'cloud drip' up close for a majority of the tour. Be sure to have wet gear (waterproof jacket and maybe shoes too), you'll definitely appreciate having it when the drip starts!
It's wonderful to hear about your enriching experience exploring the rare ecosystem with our guide, and family member, Sierra! We're thrilled that you found the educational aspect of the tour to be so valuable, and it sounds like Sierra's in-depth knowledge truly enhanced your understanding of the forest area's history and the diverse plant life it houses. Sierra's passion for sharing insights about each plant's origin and specific details certainly adds a unique dimension to the tour. Your enthusiasm for the wonders of nature is truly heartening. Experiencing the 'cloud drip' up close must have been a remarkable encounter. We call this the true essence of being in a cloud forest! Those who are lucky get to experience what it's like to be IN A CLOUD. We appreciate your advice about having wet gear on hand, as it certainly adds to the comfort and enjoyment of the tour on days that we get showers. The immersive experience of being amidst the clouds and the sensation of the drip is something truly memorable. Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback and recommendations. We're overjoyed that you had such a memorable and educational visit to our ecosystem. It's guests like you who remind us of the magic and beauty nature has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back for more explorations in the future!

We really enjoyed the 2.5 hour tour of the Cloud Forest. Our guide Dom was personable and knowledgeable. We learned about the site, what a cloud forest was and interesting info about the various trees. The paths are root covered, up and down, but we went slowly and it was an easy hike. We recommended this tour to other guests at our B&B.

My visit to Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary was a pleasant, relaxing, and unique experience! Diane is very passionate and knowledgeable about preserving the only cloud forest in the national and teaching about how it benefits the Big Island. I love the fact that this sanctuary has been passed down through 4 generations. The deep lush cloud forest was filled with amazing vegetation that is so different than the rainforest. We saw many different things like, turkey tail mushrooms, massive tree trunks that look like a rainbow, and all types of banyan trees to many, many other unique plants that I have never seen or heard of. If you are looking to escape the heat and the busy tourist scene than I highly suggest visiting this hidden gem that will surely relax your inner soul!

This is the first activity we participated after arriving to Kailua -Kona. The tour started promptly at 8. We loved the experience. The cloud forest is a must if you love nature and are interested to learn about efforts to preserve native species and help reforest the island. Our guide was Taryn. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. She made us feel comfortable and made the tour so fun. You can tell she truly loves doing what she does, and she got us excited about everything in the forest.
It was a healing experience.

This was followed by a sound bath, which was a separate hour long activity with additional fee. We were given foldable mattresses and blankets. Then the guide used guided meditation with breathing, along with different bowls to create a symphony. We liked this for the location in a beautiful gazebo surrounded by rainforest trees and birdsong. But we found it a little expensive and something that can be a one time thing. It was overall relaxing.

I have lived on Big Island for 10 years. I have never experienced anything like the Cloud Forest Sanctuary before. Our tour guide Drew was so informative as well as patient as our large group stopped to take photos and appreciate all the little fine natural details. We got to see and learn about beautiful giant ferns with red fur as well as tons of other unique trees and plants like the Blue Marble tree. Dont even get me started on some of the root systems. There was even a couple of Redwoods which was surprising. "The future largest trees on island". Drew shared lovely stories of his ancestors working the land and his own personal touches making the property so special. You can see with every Twist and Turn of the trail that things were planted with a lot of positive intention.
This Cloud forest is the perfect depiction of this tropical land thriving. Thank you again for the beautiful sound bath and the fascinating tour Drew!

The Kona Cloud Forest Guided Tour was such a beautiful event, for both students and attending adults, as we took our second semester field trip there! The kids learned so much, and they will never forget.
I am in awe of the beauty that surrounds the Cloud Forest, and that flows from the hearts of the guides, for sharing/teaching. The forest is both breathtakingly beautiful as well as breath-giving lightness and clarity.
If you are staying in Kona, Hawaii, or are a kamaaina, don't miss out on this. It is an experience that is a hidden treasure.
The 6th and 7th grade students in our group were moved deeply. I don't doubt that our club will visit again in the near future.

Really didn't know what to expect but ever so glad I went - a jungle walk conducted by Drew, grandson of the founder/developer of this property. Very informative, very slow & pleasant pace - got to experience the range of weather typical to the local Cloud Forests (i.e. blue sky at the 8:30 start of the tour and very light rain when we concluded at about 11am).

Absolutely stunning scenery and tour! Our guide Taryn was so passionate and knowledgeable, it was incredible to learn about the native plants and animals, climate, history, stories of the island. We did the two hour tour with sound bath and what a cleansing experience it was! The sound bath was so relaxing and spiritually energizing! Amazing way to start our short time on the island!
