We visited here today and I was sadly disappointed at not being able to wall out on the digue as I had read about in other's reviews. It was barricaded off despite the seas being calm and the weather fine. Apart from that we saw...More

Have visited Socoa a few times and we always walk out to the digue, it's a really cool view and has an interesting history. You can see all the blocks the council has thrown in the water for protection. Very cool

A walk to to the end of the digue providing the waves are down should not be missed. Strom watching from the Fort de Socoa as the waves crash over the wall is even more enthralling.

Walk on the sand or on the walkway, you'll get a calm, peaceful feeling in October when the crowds are gone. Very small beach town worth taking a stroll in.

A very special place, unique on the Basque Coast, down by the "Fort de Socoa" Perfect view on the bay, charming little harbour, and very impressive waves breaking on the quay when the swell is pumping up.

No restaurants, no bars, no deck chairs, in fact just a breakwater that you can walk along. My wife thought that it was fantastic for walking along, getting some sea air and looking at waves and things so I'll accept her opinion, but try not...More

What can we watch forever? Crackling fires and breaking waves (we'll skip the "other people at work" part). This place is very stark and very beautiful. We found it by accident, just following signs, and are so glad we did. The place is small and...More

These flood defences were created in the 19th century - hard to imagine how given the power of the sea, even on a calm day. Each year, 50 new 50 tonne blocks are added to the barrier to keep the sea at bay. Worth walking...More
