SAM has been the center for world-class visual arts in the Pacific...

SAM has been the center for world-class visual arts in the Pacific Northwest since 1933. Visit SAM to see a museum carved into the city, as much a part of Seattle's landscape and personality as the coffee, rain, mountains, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle.

Our three distinct locations celebrate the region's position as a crossroads where east meets west, urban meets natural, local meets global. Our collections, installations, special exhibitions, and programs feature art from around the world and build bridges between cultures and centuries.

The new exhibit, Seeing Nature, Landscape Masterworks from the Paul G. Allen family collection, opened today to enthusiastic crowds (and I'm sure reviews). SAM knows how to attract these awesome exhibits regularly and this one knocks it out of the ballpark. Of course Paul Allen is a Seattle native, which makes it all the more special. If half of the... SAM is always changing up their displays and everytime I decide to stop to see the new exhibits, Im very happy I did. Our museum is loaded with known works, but SAM is fresh and engaging, humorous and very interesting. Ive never been bored.

The museum have a several interesting arts from few donors. They a doing great job to keep it a place to visit ones a year, or if the temporary exposures is interesting for you. I do not recommend for tourists. The food is delicious in the "taste" inside of the building

The museum has always attracted me as a tourists for its special exhibitions, I don't think I would go just to go as I don't think the collection is that strong. However I would also go for their special events. The last time I was in town, they had a very well attended jazz program...people attended just for the performance.... More

My understanding is that on certain days of the week/month throughout Seattle, many of the Art Museums offer free entry to their exhibits. I went with a friend on one of the free evenings and we enjoyed several hours of observing art and walking through the exhibits. They had a wide range of styles, eras, and cultures on display. Overall... More

We visited this museum on a Sunday, and it was busy. We waited for 15min. to buy tickets. The museum has a variety of donated pieces of art and historical artifacts, but it's all very random. The Jacob Lawrence migration series was interesting and eye opening. My husband enjoyed seeing the few bits of Egyptian artifacts. This is a museum... More

a carved 115' cedar tree hanging from the ceiling alone is worth the price of the ticket and so is the rest of the museum. Skip the restaurant

Today we visited the Seattle Art Museum to see the Jacob Lawerence Migration series. The work and collection is beyond amazing. And it tells a compelling story of our world today. Heartbreaking human conditions imposed by other humans. Lets not repeat history. Other pieces and collections are fantastic - I do go back to visit often. Love the Remixes. Highly... More

The museum staff were friendly to us and the docents leading the local school children made me want to join the class too. I felt like I was getting a taste of the Seattle community because the children were diverse and included girls in muslim headwear, uniformed private schools etc. I enjoyed the Australian aboriginal collection. We stayed to have... More
