SAM has been the center for world-class visual arts in the Pacific Northwest since 1933. Visit SAM to see a museum carved into the city, as much a part of Seattle's landscape and personality as the coffee, rain, mountains, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle. Our three distinct locations celebrate the region's position as a crossroads where east meets west, urban meets natural, local meets global. Our collections, installations, special exhibitions, and programs feature art from around the world and build bridges between cultures and centuries.

I enjoyed the large variety of artwork at the Seattle Art Museum, from the temporary display of contemporary African American artists to Northwestern Indigenous artists to a beautiful display of porcelain dishware. The exhibits were well laid out and had room between them so I...More

I’m not a huge “art person,” particularly abstract or “modern” art, so I didn’t expect to enjoy this very much. I only went for my husband, who is actually an “art person.” That being said, I enjoyed this museum a lot more than I thought...More

Everytime we visit Seattle we go to SAM. They have a wonderful permanent selection of a variety of art pieces. They also every year have a exhibition that comes in and we will go down to Seattle just for the show. Last time it was...More

I visited this museum with a friend while sightseeing in Seattle. We have spent time in quite a few art museums and thought this one had a nice set-up, and while there aren't a lot of "famous" works, there is quite a diversity of art....More

The Seattle Art Museum is an impressive, if not world class, museum. Its strength is the diversity of its collections - Asian, Native American, African, European, Contemporary, Decorative, etc. Its weakness is the paucity of major works by world-class artists. The galleries are spacious so...More

I visit a lot of museums and this one has become a favorite of mine to visit. Their special exhibits are thought provoking (Figuring Histories was an excellent look at Contemporary African American Artists and their dialogue with Art History). They also have one of...More

A nice museum, though I'll admit I'm not exactly an art connoisseur. Lots to see and a good way to kill a rainy afternoon indoors. Bit high on the admission, in my opinion.

There aren't any "major" or highly "famous" pieces here but if you enjoy looking at art then you'll enjoy the museum. There are a few possibly recognizable artworks from popular artists like Warhol, Monet, Pollock, and Rothko.

This is a very decent city art museum. It is not in the big leagues but has a Monet, a Warhol and a Pollack. They have also recently acquired a Basquiat which was a little morbid. The special exhibit, Figuring History seemed vaguely familiar but...More

I was there with some exhibits for cultures around the world, and I liked the Asian art section. The figuring history exhibit was also pretty nice, I'm happy to have seen it.

We only had an hour, 90 minutes would have been less of a rush. Two hours would have been too much.
