If you are in Seattle, you need to explore this walk-way. This walk way begins in Seattle’s Ballard District, follows Lake Washington Ship Canal, cuts through Fremont District and continues to the University of Washington.

The Burke Gilman Trail is a fantastic resource to see a great deal of variety around Seattle. It runs from the north end of Lake Washington through the residential neighborhoods and parks curling around lake until the University of Washington. There are not many food options along with this section until you get towards the university. Because it runs along... More

The Burke Gilman offers a pathway through Seattle and beyond to the suburbs that takes you through some truly beautiful areas with stunning views. The trail will allow you to cut along Lake Washington and other areas in relative safety from cars and traffic except at the various street crossings. Be advised, if you're walking watch out for the bicyclists.... More

Dangerous (due to traffic and RR tracks) in places, poorly marked, and populated all along with homeless camps.

Fabulous, popular off-road biking and walking trail that runs nearly 20 miles from Puget Sound in Ballard to beyond the top of Lake Washington and into Redmond.

Sometimes it's difficult to share the trail with the bikers, but we have found that they are very courteous and announce their presence. On some parts of the trail homeless folks sleeping during the day there are a concern - would not recommend walking there in the dark!

We walked along this trail from Hawthorne Hills to the Horticultural Center, where we were going for a memorial service. We shared memories of the departed as we walked along this beautiful, peaceful trail.

The Burke Gilman trail is a lovely remnant of the old civic design sensibility that inspired Seattle developers, with some of the good urban planning innovations of rails to trails and lake front neighborhood access routes. Sections are densely tree-lined lane, others offer views of Lake Washington and the city at a distance. You can get along well on foot... More

Beautiful trail, much of it shaded by trees and flanked by water. Rent a bike from Recycled Cycles (great bikes and customer service...and reasonable prices)...spend a couple of hours or the entire day...you won't be disappointed!
