We happened upon a huge street festival in the area. Wandered around, it was interesting because of the fesitval but otherwise I would not visit.

I grew up in this neighborhood, back when it was safe and sane and largely just the street for the university crowd, with funky shops and equally funky people. Alas, it has become a draw for homeless and meth-heads, and while I feel for both these groups, the constant panhandling detracts from the pleasure of what used to be a... More

Two excellent things you could do when visiting the University District. The farmers market on Saturday is one of the two year round farmers markets in the city. It's excellent this time of you. Another gem is Hatha Yoga Center on the corner of 47th & University Way. One of the best yoga studios in the city.

Interesting vibe, hippie-grunge-goth-old guy-hipster-you name it kind of place. Some decent places to eat, hotels have been updated to 1970's posh.

This is a fun shopping area to stop in on your way into downtown. There are some great stores, parking is free and it's pretty easy to find.

Trudy Wendilin is very good in assisting also with Chinese Herbal Medicine. I can recommend it to anyone with severe back pain happening in the middle of a holiday... More

We walked through the district on the way to the university and we found alarming changes. Places that we had eaten at in the past are now empty and will be torn down and replaced with apartments. We also found more homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks but we didn't run into any trouble. There are still restaurants and shops... More

Yes, you'll see everything in the U-District, except big retail and high end destinations. What I love about the Ave and the area around is the mix of book stores, college-budget shops AND more ethnic diversity in the restaurants than you'll find in the International District.
