Along the way we took in all the very interesting displays. If we were on a longer visit to AK we would certainly come here for... More

Museum was closed on Monday but they allowed us the use the restroom while we souvenir shopped. We saw the free movies on Tuesday in a nice theater. The gift was had a lot to offer and stamped my NPS passport.

We only had a couple of hours in Anchorage so we decided to visit this small museum and there was heaps more here than we thought. Plus there is a 20 minute video, that's well worth staying for. Donations only - no fee. PLUS there's a great Hot Dog stand outside - the best in Alaska.

Free entry , but its a government building so very security minded , however once in side there are lots to see , they have view cams on the river so you can see Bears feeding off the salmon, there are various videos that run in the small theatre, the staff are very informative and friendly, there are also some... Located downtown and across the street from the visitor center. Outstanding collection and display of Alaska wildlife and small gift shop. Also don't miss the theater with many films of native life etc, etc.. This is an outstanding wildlife display which one would expect in a major museum. It is operated, apparently, by the U.S. Government and access is strictly... More

We spent the afternoon at the Public Lands information center. Videos on wildlife and the earthquake, wildlife displays, and talking with the staff. Well worth the visit.

A bit of a pain to get it, since its a government building its like going thru TSA , empty pockets, ect metal detector. They have many worthwhile displays, some souveiners and they have films of the old Gold Rush days which are most informative, worth the time and free.

Great little exhibition. Funny security guards made the procedure less daunting and the staff members were so helpful and friendly. Movies were great and there were plenty free recourses. Plus a hot dog stand right outside!

This building is centrally located in downtown Anchorage , across from the Anchorage visitor center and behind the cruise ship reception center. Ironically, because it is a "federal building" with other government offices, you have to go through a metal detector. Don't let that deter you, though. I found everyone in here (from the national park rangers to the security... More

This is located in the downtown Federal Building with some very gung-ho security to get through at the door. Just like an airport scan..... Once past that, the staff inside are quite willing tio answer any questions. There is a small; theatre that runs a movie about the big earthquake which was helpful to understand how massive that was to... More
