I love going to Eklunta when I visit Alaska. There are some great hikes and you can even rent bikes and kayaks. We intended to kayak to the far end where the water turns but it is FAR. Way more far than you would think....More

A little bit of a drive but well worth it. Very beautiful. Paved road all the way and a fairly easy drive. Go if you have the time. You can also make Thunderbird Falls a part of your trip to Eklutna.

I wouldn't miss something more exciting to see Lake Eklutna - but we had time and enjoyed driving out to the lake, and several of the other lakes nearby. Mosquito Lake is aptly named!

One of our favorite easy hikes along the shore of the lake when we have visitors who are not prepared for an Alaskan backcountry day hike. Can walk as far out as you want.

We went for an afternoon walk with another family of young children. The lake is amazing. There is an ice cream shop on the way out. It had local flavors was a good way to end an afternoon.

We arrived at 8 PM in the evening. There were still lots of people hiking and playing around the water. There were loaner children's life vests which was very nice. It is beautiful there and worth the drive there just to see the area.

Even though the road going around lake eklutna was not open yet, we walked down and made our way across streams to the edge of the lake on a sunny day. It was quite beautiful and I would probably given it 5 stars if we...More
