Small but interesting

It's interesting to see the planes landing or taking off. It's a small airfield but worth a visit while in Anchorage, if you are into planes.

It's interesting to see the planes landing or taking off. It's a small airfield but worth a visit while in Anchorage, if you are into planes.

This is an excellent place to find an instructional place to learn to fly, or ship out items to the bush. My boyfriend flies out of Merrill every week for his job as he works remotely.

Fly into Anchorage and do your shopping or appointments and enjoy a nice meal. Merrill Field Airstrip is surround by everything you need. We keep a car parked here all the time.

Cute little airport but a historical one! It is a great airport if you want to watch small planes take off or do touch and go's.

What can I say? It's a tiny airport (big enough for small planes like Cubs and Cessnas, etc) with lots of helicopters. Nothing really that special there, you can take flying lessons. It's in the seedy part of town and has some really rough clubs across the street, but the airstrip itself is fenced and safe.

Sightseeing or flying lessons from this strip (the vendors who do business here) are more likely to be old school Alaskan and have a lower overhead expense than those vendors flying off of Steven's international strip...

This airstrip is right inside the city and is a great place to take tours of surrounding glaciers and mountains. My impressions have always been that it is clean considering how old the facilities are.

Great for aviation geeks. Theres no public tour facilities but I enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere. Maybe not worth it for people not into aviation

We take it for granted driving by it everyday. Not to many places you land in a small downtown area. Flight tours to the University aviation school. They landed a 737 in march 2013 huge jet for small strip. And thats how you review an airfield lol

How do you rate an airstrip? My father was a pilot, he also worked for the FAA, so I have been here. However, would a person that doesn't fly just visit Merrill Field? Weird...
