One thing my wife and I learned while touring Boys Town was that Father Edward J. Flanagan, who founded the famous orphanage for homeless and troubled boys in 1917, has been nominated for sainthood. Those who knew the Irish-born priest would argue canonization is long overdue. When touring Boys Town, which is located 10 miles west of Omaha, Nebraska, visitors... More

This is another historic building that is more of a walk by. You cannot go inside but it's interesting to see.

We stopped, as we suspect many people do, due to fond memories of the movie. The museum was surprisingly interesting and well worth our time.

The Boys Town exhibits in the Hall of History were very interesting and inspiring; additional exhibits are being added. Flanagan's house was closed when we visited, so we could only walk around the house on the outside. The Visitors' Center staff were friendly, and the meals in the Visitors' Center cafeteria were very reasonably priced.

Due to the rainy cold weather, we decided to head to Boys Town for the morning and are so glad we did! We had an amazing time and we're really encouraged by one man's compassion and the legacy he left. I'd say this should be on every person's to-do list while in Omaha!
