The museum is free of charge, but donations are welcome, open 10 tip 4 pm in Council Bluffs, a short distance from Omaha. The museum is much more history than viewing old trains, for that there is the Lauritzen gardens 4-8-8-4 Big boy train and the Centennial, the most powerful diesel locomotive ever built. This place has the history of the golden spike, the summit tunnel, historic photos and the like. It's a great place to gather the history of the railroads path across the country. Leave enough time to visit the general dodge house near the museum. It is open tip 5 pm.

The dining room is a great place to stop for a downtown lunch. UP's company store is also open to the public.

This is a railroad museum which includes hands on and visual experiences. A WWII timeline are interesting facets of the displays. Kids can walk in and around railroad coaches and engines. There is a snack bar which is reminiscent of the 1940's and is convenient for a quick lunch while visiting . Parking is free and there is a gift shop for souvenirs if interested.

The address listed above (1400 Douglas St) is in downtown Omaha and is the address of the UP headquarters, not the museum. The UP museum is actually located at 200 Pearl Street across the river in Council Bluffs IA.

Most enjoyable visit. Saw travel accommodations available in the 1920s on -- fun to see how my parents & grandparents travelled -- brought back LOTS of memories of taking family members to the big railroad station in Chicago IL. Could probably spent 2 to 4 hours here, to get the most out of this location.

Another wonderful surprise for me. Since I was visiting Omaha for the first time I did not know what to expect. My expectation was low, but I was SO very pleased to see and learn so much history. Omaha has done a great job with all their exhibits. This Union Pacific RR Center did NOT disappoint!! Visually there was so much to see and experience. Historically a must. I want to go back and spend MORE time there!!!!!

Great history and the building was beautifully restored. We especially enjoyed wandering through the old train cars and seeing how people traveled so long ago. Worth a look.

Modern architecture and innovative design. If you like architecture and tall buildings, come visit this one. Has unique atrium design and is a compliment to the Omaha skyline.

What a powerful photography exhibit. The gallery was inclusive of his extensive career. In addition a documentary taking the viewer on Tom's journey was both exciting and relaxing.
