Great audio guide describing settlement of Iceland. Interesting displays add to visualize the story although there could be more visuals given the amount of audio in my opinion. Settlement part of the exhibition is superb and worth travelling for. Plus the journey is stunning. Saga portion of the story was too blood cuddling for my small boys aged 6 &... More

We had several opportunities to learn about Icelandic History including the National Museum of Iceland in Reykjavik. But in truth, this small, local museum laid out the story in a clearer and more experiential manner than it's larger more professional cousin. Sure, it's a little hokey -- there is a Viking prow that you can stand on that moves like... More

Iceland is definitely not known for its great food, we travelled for 10 days and were quite disappointed. Besided that, it was super expensive. One of the two places we had good food was at the Settlement Center Restaurant! Okay it's expensive but that's normaly Icelandic prices. Most of the ingredients used on the menu were local. We took the... More

They have 2 tours, both 1/2 hour long, that in many ways are complementary. One is on the history of Island, the other on one of its most famous historical idols, Egil. I would say this is definitely something to visit, it gives you a great perspective. The tours themselves were very cleverly done, using limited space to the most.... More

During our stay in Borgarnes we spent a very informative hour immersed in the saga of Egil, the local hero. All the reviews will tell you the same, that there's 2 tours of 30 minutes with the audio-guide in your language. The settlement bit is an eye-opener into the history of Iceland. The Egil exhibition is a DIY smogarsbord but... More

We visited one evening after enjoying dinner in the restaurant. The two exhibitions are really made by the audio tours provided - without the audio tour there isn't loads to see. The audio tours explain the history and stories behind the exhibits very well. We enjoyed our visit.

Thank you so much for very kind review. You are right all the information is in the audio guide, so we do not let guest in without an audio guide. This is a storytelling program and the items in the exhibits is like the pictures in a storybook. Glad you enjoyed it. Best regards Sigridur Margret More

Though we didn't have the time to explore the museum, we had a very good dinner here. It was a very quiet night and the waitstaff was great. I had the beef lasagna which was very tasty and fresh. My husband had the mussels from nearby and he was very impressed.

While we were in Iceland it did not get light until 10:45-11:00am depending on cloud coverage. We stopped in right when it opened to save daylight time for the waterfalls and hiking. The first portion of the tour was interactive and tells an interesting story of the first settlers. The second half is more like an art exhibit with narrative... More

We visited on a wet, windy day when our original plans got cancelled. So glad we did. The two audio tours were excellent. Good introduction to the settlement of Iceland with a variety of interactive displays. Particularly impressed by the tour that brought to life one of the famous Sagas. The models were very original and were artwork in their... More
