It appears that many people pass this site by...as there were very few visitors. And, passing this by is a mistake. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and provided great details. Many items in the home are original to the home.

The tour is free and takes about 30-40 minutes depending how long you poke around in the basement and how many questions you have. It’s a well preserved house with interesting history. There is a watch/clock museum in the basement which is worth looking at.

This was an interesting place to visit with lots of Springfield history. The tour lasted about 20 minutes. Our tour guide did an okay job but seemed like she may be new and not real sure how to answer questions. The house is only open...More

Well maintained & preserved old house. Lots of history about Springfield. Home of one of Springfield's Founding Fathers, Elijah Iles. Oldest standing home in Springfield. Free admission.

This is one of two houses you can go inside in this areas attraction, Lincoln's being the other, but unlike the Lincoln's house, you can go on your own inside this one, which was one of his immediate neighbours. Worth a visit.

This is one of the few old homes that you walk into and everything is just as it was when it was built. The floors are original and even the door knob/lock/key is original.

The Elijah Iles House at 628 South 7th Street often is overlooked when visitors come to Springfield to explore the more publicized Lincoln historic sites. But Iles, one of the founding fathers of Springfield, had as much to do with Lincoln's rise as anyone else....More
