The Castello di Bracciano - a stone's throw from Rome - is one of the most impressive castles in Italy, Europe and the world. Completed in 1485 by the Orsini family, around an existing 12th century Vico fortress, it is one of the few renaissance castles in Italy that - thanks to the Odescalchi family - is open to the public. It also plays host to numerous weddings, galas and important cultural events throughout the year.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Odescalchi - a very large and imposing castle/fort on a hilltop above Lago do Bracciano. At €8.50 per adult (less for children) which includes a tour, it was great value. We chose not to take the tour because our...More

Wonderful, authentic castle with great in-depth tour available in English and Italian and German. Lovely, kind guides, obviously well trained and enthusiastic (we had charming Sabine). Very historic, lovely collection inside, great value for tickets. Small but adequate gift shop on site, surrounded by nice...More

The fortress is located in Bracciano and could not be more picturesque. Walking through the castle was like a time travel, gave us a pretty good idea how people lived before, the rooms are very well preserved, some of them are still in the same...More

The Odescalchi-Orsini castle has become increasingly popular over the past few years thanks to celebrity weddings such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. About an hour drive outside of Rome, it is not your typical tourist attraction. Tours are offered in English and Italian, however...More

Great intact castle, relatively sparse inside in terms of old furniture etc though what is there is great. But it's the structure itself that is the star, and it is an awesome sight up there on the hill, and even better up close and inside....More

A nice place to visit if you visit bracciano. Wonderful view over the lake and historic place to see. And of course you can enjoy some italian food around the place.

You don't have to post this, but do you realize that the Odescalchi Fortress is the exact same place as the Castello di Bracciano? You should merge the two. It makes no senese to have them as separate attractions. The "Terrible" is for the posts,...More

We visited the Castle of Bracciano on the last open day in October and we were extremely lucky that we were allowed to wander around freely in the building without a guide. There were no more than 3-4 visitors apart from us so and the...More

Beautiful imposing Castle. A bit pricey at 7.50 and there are no English speaking tours. The views from the castle are stunning but was disappointed that the gardens were out of bounds.
