The renovations to the capitol give a really interesting but also succinct overview of the process leading to the design of this building. Houdon's famous statue of Washington is worth the detour: if possible, catch the comments by the tour guide on this.

Thomas Jefferson architect. Impressive statue of George Washington. So many other great things to see and do. A must when visiting Richmond.

I took a friend from Ghana to visit the capitol. The lady at the desk gave us a great overview of what there was to see. We did not have a time for a guided tour. It was a very good visit.

Had the opportunity to have a guided tour of the State Capitol Building as part of an American historic sites tour. For me the Jefferson designed aspect was the key & the tour fitted well with my visit to Monticello & the University of Virginia....More

Toured this park to take in additional history of this great country. Very cool and informative plaques all around grounds describing battles and different aspects of history that happened here or very near here.

I don't think you have to prearranged tours. They take place at various times throughout the day.
