I lived in Richmond for 10 years before visiting the Capitol building, and I'm glad I finally paid a visit. I moved out of state a couple weeks later and I set aside some time over lunch to spend an hour inside. I worked downtown for two years and must have walked the outside grounds about 200 times, which is... More

The history of the building is amazing -- designed by Thomas Jefferson and also the first neoclassical building in the U.S. that was the inspiration for most of our country's government architecture. A must see for history buffs, VA residence, and school children studying history. Fantastic!

Tour started 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled time but at least the lady guide apologised and explained why, albeit a poor reason. She started the tour slowly but came into our own when she showed the rooms. She loved there was a group of around 30 young people as well as around 10 adults. She brought the history of... More

What a grand, grand building this is, sitting high and noble on the top of Shockoe Hill. Designed by Thomas Jefferson, it is said to be “one of the 10 Buildings that changed America”. The hour-long tour is free and very comprehensive or you can take a self-guided tour and wander around this gorgeous building yourself. Metered on-street parking is... More

Took the kids to see the area and walk around and had a blast climbing stairs and meeting the governers dog.

There are many nice capitols. This one is certainly in my top ten. It's very well maintained and has arguably more history in it than any other state capitol has. It's free and it's beautiful, as is the surrounding square. Spend half a day easily.

We took the guided tour on a weekday afternoon. While I am sure that all the tour guides are great, you are REALLY in luck if you get Mrs Turpin. She is a wonderful tour guide!

This is a must see for those interested in the history of both our country, and the state of VA. Here and see where history was made in Jefferson's design of the capital building and location. Our guide Martha did a fantastic job educating us while moving throughout the building where decisions and actions formed our country's and state's history.

This was a great outing for the family. The historian kept both the adults and the young ones engaged with the tour. You will not be disappointed if you love history!
