Chilhouly, Egypt, Monet - excellent exhibits!

We try to visit at least once a year - even open Thanksgiving and Christmas, and a nice place for lunch too.

This is a nice art museum. The museum and most exhibits are free. You can park on the street or in the parking deck for $5. There is a gift shop and a restaurant. The employees are very nice. As we visited for a team building activity, the security guard took a picture of our group. It's very clean and... More

Enjoyed the Faberge eggs and the British sporting paintings and sculpture in particular...the Indian saddle and frontier man's jacket were especially reminiscent of some USA history. Well spaced, signed and labelled exhibits. Functional building but not itself architecturally special! Co-located with history museum but did not have time to see both. It is a few miles from town so appreciated... More

So glad we made time to stop here. The curators of this museum have done a spectacular job with the content and arrangement of the exhibits. There are so many areas to enjoy, and the newly opened Faberge exhibit is not to be missed. Amazingly, it is a free museum (only nominal charge is for parking) and outranks many costly... More

I.Love.This.Museum. Eclectic collection, lots of activities, open late on weekends for wine, jazz and art? What more can you ask for! Great date destination and lots of fab restaurants close by. This museum almost makes me want to move to Richmond.

Great architecture awaits you as you approach the facility. The artwork is world class and is displayed in a very open way. We came to Richmond to view the Edvard Munch/Jasper Johns exhibition, which way exceeded our expectations--fantastic and extensive. Two restaurants, one a cafe on the first floor and the other on the upper floor. This second one is... More

This place has it all from Roman to Chinese to Deco. I enjoy just walking the hallways seeing the artwork and sculpture. I especially like the wing with Renoir. He has a painting of a blond girl that looks like you could reach out and touch her hair. Just some really gorgeous pieces in this museum.

A very beautiful museum. The exhibits walk you through Virginia from the centuries before Europeans to the late part of the past century. Much attention is paid to slavery in the state, the civil war, native cultures. And also, immigration of Virginia farmers west to Kentucky and southwest to Texas, after the revolutionary war, which was my family's experience. Of... More
