We arrived for a 10 o’clock visit/ were greeted with a nice brüt wine glass. The tour was good and the host Anna was great but the atmosphere was not as great as we expected. Perhaps it was the time of year.
The wines were all wonderful and the history of the family producing them . We tried the various varieties and decided on the Collepiano sagrantino. Hopefully it will age well and be better over time

We had a wonderful tour from a very knowledgeable staff person who had studied eneology and worked at vineyards in France before joining Arnoldo Caprai. Her pours were generous and the accompanying food paired well with the wine. We had no hesitation in buying the 25th anniversary sangrantino wine. Our home wine base is Napa, California. What a great discovery and an excellent souvenir from our trip.

Visited on a recent trip and it was our best winery experience in Umbria. Nice place, good, informative tasting, and excellent wines. Bought a couple of 25 year Montefalco Sagrantinos to put down and revivt in a few years, and enjoyed their Grechetto and Montefalco Rosso.

According to the note on the door, someone would be back in 5 mins for the tour but no-one showed up. We waited and waited and eventually someone opened the door to the tasting area so we could be cooler - we were outside in high August temps. Still no-one showed. After waiting 25 mins we left. Apparently this place has won awards but clearly not for customer service!

The weather was bad but it didn't affect our visit to this home of great Umbrian wine. FABULOUS staff give you a great welcome, an interesting tour and a delicious wine tasting accompanied but local produce. The 25 Anni is a magnificent bottle of wine.

Variety of excellent wines from the developer of the Sagrantino grape variety in the 1970's--it's now world-renowned. If you like wine & go to Montefalco, you have to stop here!

We visited the Arnaldo Caprai winery for the "Cantine Aperte" event.
The sommelier was full of knowledge and was able to explain in simple words the differences between all the wines, so the tasting is a great experience even for whom doesn't know anything about wine.
Grechetto was really light, the best wine of the winery is Collepiano. really a great red beauty.

We already visited great wineries in this area like Scacciadiavoli and Sportoletti. In these places we were friendly welcomed and treated with personal and natural care. At Arnaldo Caprai however we entered a professional tasting room with hostesses who were not really enjoying what they were doing. They were preoccupied with themselves and talked about other guests. Besides that this is unprofessional, it's also rude. We really wanted to buy a few boxes because we tasted one of their wines elsewhere. Finally we decided not to buy anything because of their behavior. In the end we went to the Ipercoop in Collestrada and there we found all their wines but at a much lower price! So we bought our wines there. In the future we will skip this winery.

Any wine trip to Umbria must include Caprai, in reverence to the foresight shown in the 70's to make a dry wine from the locally long-established sacred passito grapes, and give to the World one of todays greatest red table wines, and for which we are eternally grateful. And so it comes to pass. A host who, although charming, has been working in the wine industry for 2 weeks and knows little about the specifics of the winery, the terroir, or the process on which Caprai built its reputation. A perfunctory tour, for which you are charged handsomely, with little information above basic wine making procedures, and questions answered usually by "I'm not sure" (Hello; Mr Caprai, we are PAYING for this). A tasting which is so so and also paid-for. Capai's wines are relatively expensive, (and how they think they can justify 30 euros for an OK white table wine "Cuvee Secret" - hey it's not that secret is it ? - compared with a 20 euro Alsace Grand Cru) - and their regular Sagrantino at 26 euros, currently selling the just OK 2008, one is starting to think that a bit of corporate greed has started leeching into the action. (Cantina Tudernam's 2007 Sagrantino is a far better wine at 14.50.....) There are dozens of excellent Sagrantino producers out there who have outclassed Caprai and I would advise that in fact you do not need to visit this winery; maybe call by and take a photo for old time's sake.

Went here because of good reviews on trip advisor. The facility is clean, modern, and upscale. So many people will like it because of this. Reminded me of Napa valley after it turned into a destination for people that think they know wine.
This place gives tours to large groups and has a robust wine club that comes in and has a glass of wine and picks up their two bottles. The whites were bone dry and because of that it sucked much of the fruit out leaving just a crisp dry white. The reds seemed like they needed more time in barrel to develop longer. Very tannic and acidic.
5.00€ for their three tastes of the “average” wines and 10.00€ for their two reserves. They do not waive the tasting fees if you buy any wine.
If you were in a group and took their tour and ate some food, it would be worth it, otherwise, imho pass.

Gentile Pietro,
ci scusiamo se rispondiamo solo ora, siamo spiacenti ma non vendiamo vini sfusi.
Se vuole comunque passare in cantina e assaggiare qualche nostra etichetta ci farebbe molto piacere.
Cordiali saluti e buona giornata.

I visited this vineyard last August and I strongly suggest it: not only the wine I tested is exquisite but the staff is extremely professional and dedicated and introduced us to their wine production and varieties with great passion.
