A Gruta da Furninha situa-se na vertente sul da península de Peniche. Segundo pesquisadores que a estudaram, há indícios de que teria sido habitada pelo Homem de Neandertal e posteriormente pelo Homo Sapiens. É considerada um patrimônio arqueológico de grande importância e seria a comprovação da habitação do Homem de Neandertal até ao limite oriental da Península Ibérica. A despeito de toda essa importância foi difícil para mim encontrá-la e quando consegui deparei-me com uma gruta vazia e muito suja.

Vestígios arqueológicos

Este local deve o seu nome a uma cavidade natural na rocha, quase ao nível do mar, onde foram encontrados vestígios da presença do Homem de Neandertal, extinto há cerca de 40.000 anos. Esses objetos encontram-se dispersos por vários museus, entre eles o Museu Municipal de Peniche.
No topo da falésia está mais um dos vários miradouros que existem entre o Forte de Peniche e o Cabo Carvoeiro.
As vistas são razoáveis, não sendo um bom local para avistar as Berlengas.
