The highlight of my trip to Andalusia's "white villages" was visiting Cueva de la Pileta, a few miles outside Ronda in southern Spain. With an intrepid (and articulate) English-speaking guide, I carried a lantern into a series of caves under the Andalusian mountains, and (with...More

1 hour tour of the caves that are well worth seeing for the natural creations but also the cave painting/writing. Also, if it's a hot day it's a lovely escape from the midday sun!

The caves are both amazing for their ancient rock art and the caves themselves. The family running the place could probably make more money and organise the approach and time table better, but hey, it's worth it.

We arrived on a Sunday morning around 11 and we're fortunate to catch a tour group just entering the cave. We were given our lanterns and the tour began. The guide spoke both English and Spanish. While some things may have been lost in translation...More

Seen one cave - you've seen them all. Except these are special: the cave paintings and the history surrounding them are mind-blowing. The guided tour is a revelation.

Remarkable cave experience, which not only retains paintings around 32,000 years old but the approach from a car parking area up quite steep steps (frail folk beware!) keeps the atmosphere of what it must have been like when discovered. The steps both inside & out...More

If you are expecting a "Disney" style attraction then don't bother. If you want to walk through some amazing caves see picture drawn 30,000 years ago then go. Nice spoken tour in Spanish and English. We had the added bonus of seeing an eagle soaring...More

Awe. Wonder. About 30,000 years ago, humans began to leave beautifully drawn outlines of horses, bulls, and a large fish on the walls of a cave burrowing deep into the limestone mountains near Benaojan, Spain. People continued to do so for thousands of years thereafter....More

If you type in Pileta cave tours on Google you will find the Pileta cave site heading the page and this gives opening times (open all year round and weekends) and advice on how to get there (by train then walk)

You are probably calling out of their operating hours. On their website it says 10:00-12:30 and 16:00-17:00. Good luck!
