    Great Zoo. Terrible Restaurant!
Zoo itself is great. Parking was a nightmare on a Monday when schools were in session. If you eat at the restaurant, allow for a LONG wait. There are 2 lines. One is for the self serve kiosk. Do not choose that line if the restaurant is busy!!!! Waited 30 mins just to order and another 40 for food to be ready. Meanwhile, people who ordered from a human ate & left in the time we waited

Disappointed in our trip. Zoo clearly needs renovating. Lot of the food stands were empty - or served limited food items - and the gift shop near the panda enclosure was closed. Way too many screaming kids on field trips.

Definitely a fun way to spend 4 or 5 hours
We really enjoyed our time at Zoo Atlanta. The panda exhibit was incredible. The enclosures for the elephants and the giraffes were great. All of the animals seemed well taken care of and happy. There were only a couple of exhibits (tiger and komodo dragon) where it was very difficult to see the animals, but that's not uncommon in most zoos nowadays. They allow you to take in your own food and drink. While we weren't traveling with children, it looks like they had a great play area for kids. There were only 3 negatives. 1) There wasn't enough parking when we went. Many of us had to park on the street and walk in. But the street was safe and it was only a couple of blocks to walk. 2) The zoo seemed a little small. Hopefully they have some expansion plans in the works. 3) The train ride would be much better. It only did a small loop around the petting zoo area. It would be great if they could extend it to go around the whole park. But we had fun and I will go again next time I'm in Atlanta.

    Great experience! Especially the staff!
Great experience! So much to look at. I mainly want to thank the employees. They were so knowledgeable about everything and seemed to enjoy sharing information and interacting. Carol was amazing! We were there Tuesday June 27th and she was above and beyond a fountain of information. She answered all our questions and seemed to love her job. Would love to go again.

    Where are the bears?
Decent zoo. Couldn’t see the red pandas because the trail was closed for safety reasons - but no advanced warning until you got to where it was blocked off. They have 4 pandas and only one was visible. It was a total undersell compared to DC Zoo. There are not many places you can see pandas anymore. Wish it was better.

Great variety of animals and wonderful staff
Located in midtown Atlanta, it was easy to find. Parking was adjacent. The enclosures provided clear views of the animals and a great variety. Frequent presentations by the staff made the trip educational and fun. Spent a good 3 hours walking around.

A very nice zoo and we loved the elephant experience
My husband and I are new to the Atlanta area and we visited Zoo Atlanta for the first time in August 2022. We went to the Elephant Experience and enjoyed it very much. We also loved walking around the rest of the zoo. It is very well laid out. It was a bit smaller than I expected but we did spend a few hours enjoying the animals there.

Lots of animals, but hard to see them at times
So let me preface this by saying that there were definitely a lot of animals at the zoo (very spacious by the way) and it was cool to see them on the visit. But - and it might have been because I went during the summer (July) and it was extremely hot in the afternoon - a lot of the animals were not visible to me because they were hiding! I assume it was because of the heat, which I totally understand, but that kind of disappointed me. Most of the animals were in exhibits that were very far from the public eye - the only exhibit that had a box in which visitors could go up close to see the animal was the panda (I might have missed others). Otherwise, the animals during my visit were resting in the very back. This was my first visit to a zoo, so I was hoping for a bit more of an up close experience (I did enjoy the animal farm because visitors got to pet the goats). You might have a better chance of seeing the animals up close if you visit in a cooler month.

    Manageable size without the crowds
By luck, we went on the 2nd day of school for Atlanta schools. As a result, no crowds. The zoo is not huge but with pandas, gorillas, orangutans, giraffes, reptiles, etc., the zoo is an excellent attraction to visit while in Atlanta. The zoo keepers and volunteers were very helpful and friendly.

Awesome Zoo with great viewpoints !
At first glance at the map, it seemed like this zoo was rather small, but it took me almost 3 hours to see everything. I LOVED how close I was able to get to the animals— who doesn’t love being like five feet from a red panda?! The animal enclosures were clean and well maintained. The reptile exhibit was really large and they had some awesome creatures! The gorilla habitat was AMAZING! My only complaints was that the layout/signage was a bit confusing, but I eventually found my way. Gift shop was also a bit steep. Would go again for sure!

Was having a great time till a security guard went out of his way to tell me my youth group didn’t act like a church. My kids were being normal kids like everyone else there. Terrible personnel but the animals were cool.

Great zoo, one of the best I’ve been to in the US. Pandas were great, I hope they work out a deal to bring them back in the future. Lots of animals actually playing and doing activities. Would definitely recommend.

January is a great time to visit no crowds, lots of cool animals, like Gorillas, Elephants
Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, etc
but we came to see Pandas, and they were awesome! the Pandas alone were worth the ticket.

Visited Atlanta Zoo with my kids. Great experience! Loved the panda exhibit and vibrant bird paradise. Some animals weren't available, and many eateries were closed. Extra fees for certain attractions were a bit of a letdown. Overall, a fun day out!

We had an excellent visit this week to see pandas. I have been wanting to see them my whole life and had to get there before they are sent back to China. We arrived at opening (10am) and went straight to the panda exhibit. I highly recommend going first thing in the morning. All of the animals were out and active. We got lots of great photographs. There were staff members there to share information about the animals and answer any questions. We visited the pandas again before we left and they were all napping back in the corners by that point. The zoo was overall very nice and very clean. It took us approximately 4 hours to casually view the entire zoo.

We visited the zoo first thing in the morning on a Thursday during winter break. The zoo was busy, but the line to enter moved quickly. There were a few animals that were not out for observation due to the chilly weather or other reasons- but we saw nearly all the animals we had hoped to see (minus a giraffe).
We were set on seeing the pandas before they are sent to China. I’m so glad we saw them, two were out and about eating bamboo and two were in their enclosures snoozing. The exhibit was busy but the crowds moved through nicely allowing folks a chance to get nice photos.
Some other animal highlights for me, my husband, and our 7-year-old daughter were the elephants, red pandas, flamingos, otters, and gorillas.
The sections are split up nicely and the flow worked well. We enjoyed our visit.

We’ve been to zoos all around the world and would put rate this one in the upper middle third of them.

For what it provides, we felt it is too expensive and wished it focused more on fewer areas.

The best exhibit is the Elephant one followed by the gorillas and monkeys.

While nice for a day out (and better than the Atlanta Aquarium) I cannot say I plan to go back.

We enjoyed the layout of the zoo. It felt like walking through a forest instead of there being big spaces between exhibits. Of course, the pandas were the highlight. I would swear that one was purposely posing for us. Visiting the restaurant was also a plus. Food was good and service speedy.

Really nice zoo. Go as soon as they open and get to the pandas to watch them eat because later in the morning/day they will be sleeping. The gorillas were also great, esp the toddler and new baby. Also, the cooler weather helped because the animals were all active. The elephant encounter was fun and worth the extra money. Overall a great day!
