This is a great museum. We especially loved the folk art and the historic items from the civil war. Everything was thoughtfully described to provide an accurate description. I do think that it would have been helpful to add photos and descriptions of the tragedies that the slaves endured during their time on the plantations and in the fields.

There are many areas the center covers, including the Olympics, but I visited the history center to explore more on the civil war. The staff that guided us was very knowledgeable and passionate in telling the stories. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and so did my 10 year old. One of the experiences they offered was about a woman who... More

A very comprehensive history of ATL with a separate transplanted 1800s cottage and a grander +/- mansion. Also has a comprehensive Civil War exhibit with pretty balanced perspective. A thorough visit takes 3-4 hrs. Not that close to closest MARTA (rapid transit) station

This is a great attraction to see. It gives an very good inside look at what the Civil War was all about. From reasons of War to the uniforms. Great for all ages, especially the history buff in the family.

As a lifelong Georgian, what a treat to visit this place. It was not only fun to reminisce but it was also interesting to learn of things I did not know about. Very well laid out.

We got a special treat visiting the Smith Farm and the Swan House. There were docents who pretended to be a slave at the Smith Farm, a docent who was the architect for the Swan House, another docent who was a friend of the owner of the Swan House and decorator. the gentleman who acted as the architect was so... This is a great museum. The old buildings are fun and the guides in costume dress are informative, providing an insight into American history. The exhibition on the American Civil War was particularly well done.

This is one of the hidden gems of the Atlanta area. It gives you a wonderful understanding of how we got to today. It also helps you understand the events that shaped and still impact our daily lives. Allow time to see both inside and the outside exhibits.

There was a ton of construction on both the building and the parking lot. It was closed when we passed by December 26, 2016. Call ahead if you want to visit.

Thank you for your review. Yes, we are in the middle of construction an addition to house the Atlanta Cyclorama. But the museum, gardens, and houses are open and the visitor experience is not currently hampered by construction. Please come back and enjoy a day of history with us! More
