Visit this hallowed ground created with gardens around each section. Roads and paths are very bumpy and uneven. There are portapotties on the grounds. The Civil War is still remembered fondly for their confederate heroes.

We took a guided walk to look at spring flowering trees as part of the 2 week Atlanta Science Festival. Our intent was to enjoy the walk and then wander around on our own. It was way, way too cold. Will have to go back. The 3 guides were interesting and it was a cold but sunny 1 hour tour. The cemetery is huge and very old. All of the trees and flowers make for a lovely outing. The mausoleums are interesting. There is even a visitor center with information and a good collection of gift items. It is in a trailer near the parking lot and main entrance.

Oakland Cemetery is a beautiful place to stroll through while taking in some local history and natural beauty. I have visited many times while in Atlanta and always enjoy the scenery, including the historic mausoleums, the funereal symbols and art, and stained glass windows. Despite the many visits, and because the cemetery is so big, I still come across new sites to enjoy! Occasionally I have taken one of their walking tours and found them very informative. I'm a bit envious that I don't live near enough to attend more tours or their seasonal events with costumes and music and such. Or maybe even picnic (as I've seen small groups doing)!! On this latest visit, we noted that they are renovating the Bell Tower and that the walkways are in better shape.

I really enjoyed walking the cemetery grounds and visiting the gravesites, both of the famous and the not-so-famous. The history that surrounds you - awesome!

I would recommend parking in the provided area outside the gates near the temporary visitors center. The construction near the bell tower just makes driving more challenging. Streets are narrow to begin with and some are blocked off with construction vehicles and equipment.

It was such a beautiful place and seeing all the ancient headstones and knowing some were hundreds of years old impressed my grandchild.

This is a beautiful, historic cemetery. You can just wander at your own pace, or take a tour like we did. Check the website calendar for tour times. We did the general tour which lasted 1-1/2 hours. Randy was a friendly, knowledgeable docent. Well worth a stop.

Although you don't have a lonely visit here, it's super quiet and peaceful. It has just enough creep factor to enhance the beauty of the surroundings. Many joggers and walkers are also there so you feel totally safe.

Did a self guided tour with their map, though I'd really hoped to do their "50 ways to die" guided tour, but couldn't due to a conflict. It's almost like a scavenger hunt trying to find the spots marked on the map - very few have obvious location guides outside of Margaret Mitchell, Kenny Rodgers and Bobby's plots. The self guided audio tour in the black section of the cemetery was very good. We drove and parked in different areas to look at certain segments since we wanted to visit all 50+ points on the map, but seemed like most parked in the exterior lot and walked certain portions. Very hilly and uneven cobble bricks everywhere. Roads very narrow & oozes history.
