We heard from a ranger that this was the best hike in the park and decided to close out our day of hiking with it. Bring your trail guide, as otherwise you spend a lot of time looking for petroglyphs where they aren't and wondering...More

We were advised that taking the trail backward was rigorous, but not as hard as the complete circuit. The trail has sweeping views of the canyon. We even encountered wildlife, a tarantula and Collar lizard, not to mention the abundant bird population. The climb down...More

This hike is about two hours round trip, suitable for children. Views over the canyon are amazing. Make sure to take water.

First the good. The hike is beautiful, moving up and down the canyon walls through ruins and the natural beauty of the area. Near the end of the trail you come to the petroglyphs. This is the only trail in the park that has petroglyphs...More

This is the most challenging and rewarding hike in Mesa Verde (the other hikes we did are lovely and tame). It’s a “pay attention” trail -- lots of opportunities to lose your footing and go down. I know some rate the hike easy and fine...More

Somehow we didn't read this was a strenuous hike and for anyone that hikes I would consider this moderate. It did have lots of stone steps and some rock scrambling. I'm a 66 year old not in great shape woman and I was able to...More

The trail requires some climbing - lots of great views and of course the petroglyph wall halfway through! Not many people go on this trail so you have some peace and quiet which is nice since other parts of Mesa Verde can be quite crowded....More

This is a 2.4 mile (3.9 km) hike that takes you south from the Spruce Tree House overlook down to a petroglyph panel which includes the most extensive accessible rock art in the park. Since it covers varied terrain, some of it inside the canyon...More

This hike can be quite challenging for those not accustomed to hiking. Bring comfortable hiking shoes, plenty of water, snacks, sun glasses, a ball cap, and rain gear because you will likely experience a shower after 2 pm. The longest part of the hike is...More

This is a great hike, but the first half is a fairly tough rock scramble. Good choice for those who hike well, not a great choice for children or those of limited mobility

If you are in reasonably good shape, it would be ok, but for the first half of the hike you need to be sure footed and able to navigate rocks and steps. The second half is in top of the Mesa and is easy. I would consider... More
