The area is very walkable, with lots of cute boutique shops, unique consignment stores, and restaurants galore. The canal area is very pretty, too! We were able to find street parking pretty easily. I recommend it for a stroll!

The downtown area of Frederick is filled with interesting shops, cafes, coffee shops, art galleries, and history. We loved the Civil War Medical Museum. Parking in decks is easy and not very expensive. A very nice place to spend a full day.

On a recent visit with family we took a walk downtown along the canal. Seemed like a nice area. several shops and eateries on surrounding streets. Many historic sights to see in the area. We visited the Civil War Medicine Museum, quite interesting and informative.

Loved the Promonade on Carroll Creek. Beautiful walk any time of day, with a number of restaurants and places to relax. It was a pleasant surprise. Go in the evening for dinner, it is lovely.

There are some by the creek, but don’t recall any in the shopping area. You can always grab a cup of coffee in the many coffee shops and sit down. If you go, enjoy!

Are you talking about Frederick, Maryland? There are no casinos in Frederic. Perhaps you are thinking of Charlestown. White Water rafting is also elsewhere. But the above answers re: Frederick itself are accurate.

It is roughly 40 miles. Frederick is North on Rt 270. On week days, this can take 1.5 to 2 hours and longer if the weather is bad. On a weekend morning, it can take less than an hour if you can get out of DC quickly enough.
