Home to the Patron Saint of the city it is joined to the Castle.
It has a lovely asymmetrical façade with the bell tower overlooking the sea. Built in the early 1700s it replaced a smaller chapel.
Interestingly around the main door can be seen images of military implements such as muskets, cannons and drums of battle.

This old church is part of the old city and sits just outside the castle wall. Unfortunately, it was closed during our visit. The bronze statue of Pope Benedict XIII is within a few yards of the church.

We had walked 5km in the heat from our campsite. I was suitably dressed as I thought. No shorts or revealing shirt! But as I entered the guardian grunted and pointed to HIS head. it was a while before i realised that i would not be allowed to enter wearing my hat. Sorry but this is totally outdated in my view.

This church is located in the médieval village in the entrance to the castel, very nice ancient stone construction, nice typical spanish architecture; for the patronales feasts, there are processions with the local music, the common autorities and many people.
it was an enorm and great feast, that was quite an experience.

Add this beautiful building on the long list of places to stop off at during you walk through the old town. Attached to the side of the castle it's very easy to find, it is usually open to go inside and worth a look. In the heat of the summer sun you also get some respite from the sun.
