Beautiful and well-maintained trail. We met people from all over the world while walking there. Great opportunity for family pictures. Tip: the walk may take over 30 mins, the restroom is located in the end of the trail.

Get up close to the faces and take the well maintained hike. Views are amazing. Worth the extra time.

This trail is a great way to get closer to the memorial. As other reviewers have said, if you take the trail clockwise you will not have as many stairs to climb. It is not strenuous if you are an active person but definitely lets...More

The walk is great. Be careful though, as there are over 200 stairs to walk. The views is nice and the forest area surrounding is gorgeous.

Fun walk but lots of ups and downs. Would be good for the average healthy person. I also recommend starting the walk from the right side and coming back around and out the left side. That way it's an easier walk for you! :)

The trail offers a multitude of views of the memorial and is a must if you visit Mt. Rushmore. There are a lot of stairs, but you can take them slowly if you need to - in other words, there is plenty of room for...More

This trail ran near to MR. It was a well designed feature showing all the state flags flying at full mast. The trail ran to the forefront of the MR mountain. The weather that day was sublime.

Every time I go to the Black Hills, it's almost vital to stop at Mt. Rushmore. Looking at the faces every time may get boring, but the Presidential Trail never does. There is always something different when you walk around it. You get up close...More

You can buzz through it quickly in 1/2hr or enjoy and read captions and see more special views taking 1 to 1-1/2 hr. '
Clockwise or COUNTER clockwise? Most of the other comments state counter. Also, if you send up where you start, wouldn't it all be the same? Thanks.

Depends on your stamina. I recommend clockwise, but either way works fine. My reasoning is that clockwise takes you to the close in viewing points sooner. And sometimes you will see mountain goats along that section of... More
